[Prolene and vicryl as synthetic sutures for intradermal suture technics].

It could be shown that beside the non-absorbable synthetic suture material (Polypropylene) for the subcuticular continuous skin suture absorbable synthetic suture material (Polyglactin 910) is suitable for the buried subcuticular skin suture to obtain good esthetic scars in plastic surgery. Experiences with Polyglactin 910 in over 300 patients are presented. In no case wound healing was disturbed as a result of the suture material. Further application will give more information about the usefulness of the absorbable synthetic suture material Polyglactin 910 for the buried subcuticular skin suture.

[Determination of the viability of skin regions in danger of necrosis by means of transcutaneous polarographic measurement of oxygen pressure].

In 8 patients the method of transcutaneous pO2-monitoring, developed by Huch and Lübbers, is applied for the determination of the viability of ischemic skin areas of the transplant. Its usefulness is proven. The problem of arterial and tissue pO2-monitoring is explained. According to our experiences of about 6 months this qualitative method seems to be useful in plastic surgery. An important possibility to apply the transcutaneous pO2-monitoring is the postoperative control of free skin flaps transplanted by microvascular anastomoses to indicate early enough the beginning tissue hypoxia by a warning system. Further results with the method shall be reported.

[Clinical aspects and therapy of extensor tendon avulsion in the distal phalanx of the finger (author's transl)].

Avulsion of the extensor tendon of the terminal phalanx of the finger is the most frequent form of all subcutaneous tendon ruptures. The rupture may occur in the tendinous part or cause a fracture of the bone in the region of the insertion. Healing requires at least 5-6 weeks conservative therapy with a Stack's splint being attempted first. Surgical fixation of the terminal joint with Kirschner wire should only be carried out in exceptional cases because of the risk of infection and damage to the joint. Operative union of the ends of the tendon is only immediately indicated with open tendon severance and in old injuries in which complete severing of the tendon can be recognized. If tendon regeneration is unsatisfactory, the Georg method of purse-string suture with temporary arthrodesis is recommended later.

[Dermolipectomy for the reduction of redundant skin and local lipodystrophy].

Operative techniques by Pitanguy for abdominoplasty and fat reduction in trochanteric lipodystrophy and their results are presented. In comparison to most other procedures this technique shows the following advantages: low and horizontal final scar; the possibility to remove periumbilical fat and skin by transposition of the umbilicus; a diastasis of the mm.recti can be corrected and infraumbilical scars can be removed. The technique of excision described by Pitanguy for reduction of trochanteric fat is a simple and safe procedure leading to satisfying cosmetic results. During the past 18 months we treated 20 patients using Pitanguys technique. The results are definitely better than those achieved with other methods.

[Gastric tolerance of different preparations of acetylsalicylic acid in postoperative prevention of thrombo-embolism (author's transl)].

The necessity for thrombosis-prophylaxis is indisputable. The evaluation of our patients over a period of 2 years revealed results compatible with other authors. Due to its thrombocyte desaggregating action, acetyl-salicylic acid was found to have a definite effect on the thrombophilia by inhibiting the thrombocyte adhesiveness in a beginning thrombosis. It was shown that acetylsalicylic acid in combination with glycocoll is apparently superior to microencapsulated acetylic acid in terms of gastric tolerance. In a small number of patients the therapeutic efficiency was investigated and according to the platelets agglutination test, verified. Further investigations are planned in a major series of patients where acetylsalicylic acid with glycocoll was administered in respect to the treatment of rheumatic fever.

[Bactericidity of prepared catgut (author's transl)].

The biocidal effect of iodized Catgut in comparison to other used types of Catgut could not be confirmed. Histologically only the different resorption time well known as a result of earlier studies of the 3 types of contaminated Catgut could be found.
