A review is given of the conventional methods of determining the age of blood stains by forensic examination of trace evidence. Detailed analysis of the samples in several steps, which destroyed the traces, and the widely differing results do not appear satisfactory with regard to their use in forensic investigations. Considering the change in color with increasing age the three coloric parameters (chroma, hue, and value of the blood stain) can yield exact numerical measurements which allow to draw relatively reliable conclusions as to the age of the blood stain. Of the three colorimetric methods, based on equalization, three regions, and spectral analysis, respectively, only the last may be considered really satisfactory and up to the requirements of forensic medicine. It has the additional advantage of being independent of the visual acuity of the examiner and of the type and quality of the source of illumination. The aging of freshly taken venous blood, which has been deposited on filter paper or linen, can last up to 33 days, either in the dark or in day light, with due regard to temperature and humidity. The spectrophotometric color measurements taken place on the immediate surface of the blood stain in the range of the visual spectrum between 400 and 600 nm. The continuously drawn spectral curves are then subject to remission analysis the first step. The second step consists in a mathematical computer analysis of color valence measurements.

Two cases of combined suicide are reported. The two persons had received deadly gun shot wounds in moving automobiles, in one case (a 28-year-old woman) a shot into the mouth and in the other case a shot into the temple. In either case a traffic accident was assumed at first. The weapons in question were in one case a selfmade shooting device and in the other a bored-through alarm pistol.
From a series of various colour schemes differently constructed to characterize colour, the colour chart system DIN 6164 is tested here. This system uses three parameters: hue (T), degree of saturation (S), and shadow (D) in such a way that their units represent approximately equal steps in terms of sensation. The advantage over colour atlases is that the normed colour tablets (format 22 X 34 mm) can be taken out and used for direct comparison with the object. Moreover, they may be washed with water or alcohol, a useful property for application in anatomy classrooms. Finally, the values of D, T, and S are printed on their reverse parts and may thus be transformed into the equivalent valence measures Xc, Yc, Zc of DIN 5033 sheet 3.
A case of lethal pericardium-tamponade is reported as a consequence of excessive hydration in a 19-year-old woman. According to her own report, she took 8-10 tablets of Adumbran and Persumbran in drug form in an attempt to commit suicide. Neither clinical observation, the obduction, histological findings nor chemotoxicological analysis are capable of explaining a deadly poisoning by these tablets. This paper points to the necessity of most careful controls that are required even for adults in regard to the electrolytic and hydrological balances.
