A maximised-ADL index of functional status for stroke patients. Methodological considerations.

An index of functional status for stroke patients is presented. It is based on the observation that a patient's disposition is decided by the level of involvement of the most severely affected ADL-parameter. This allowed a suitably selected set of ADL-parameters to be scaled so that an index of functional status could be constructed which did not depend on the assumption of simple additivity of the component ADL-parameters. This index, together with two simplified versions, was contrasted with two summed-ADL indices and with an index of mobility, as predictors of outcome. The study was carried out on 57 patients.

The New South Wales medical registration work force survey 1976.

A medical workforce survey was conducted in conjunction with the 1976 registration of doctors in New South Wales. Its prime aim was to provide information on the number of doctors required to be trained by the medical schools. The main findings of the survey are presented; in particular, current and predicted values of the doctor/population ratio are given. The status of this parameter is discussed.

An epidemiological database system.

An epidemiological database system is presented. It is a system built around the concepts of record structure and location, and of processing of the data item values so stored. It is designed to operate in many situations with a minimum of programming, and to be easily expanded to more complex situations by adding new program modules to those already existing and functioning.
