[Complex odontoma and composite odontoma. Apropos of 2 cases].

Two cases of odontoma are reported, one lesion being a compound odontoma and the other a complex odontoma, the latter provoking facial pain combined with rhino-sinusal allergic phenomena. These two cases are used as a basis for an update classification of odontomas.

[Posterior iliac donor sites. Should they be considered more often?].

Spongy bone grafts are characterised by their resistance to infection and their great osteogenic potential. These qualities are valuable in facio-maxillary surgery. The anterior superior iliac crest, the usual donor site for cortico-spongy bone grafts is unsuitable for the removal of large quantities of spongy bone. The posterior iliac crest, which is used by orthopaedic surgeons, is a rich donor site for spongy bone, which is not generally used by facio-maxillary surgeons. The abundance and quality of the bone obtained, the simplicity of the postoperative course and the relative absence of pain of this site make it a good indication. The change in the operative position should not constitute an obstacle to its use.

Bone Transplantation↗

[Christ-Siemens-Touraine syndrome. A new case].

A patient with anhidrotic ectodermal dysplasia presented the three classical symptoms necessary to establish an early diagnosis: hypotrichosis, absence or reduction in number of teeth, and absence or diminution of sweat glands. Radiological examination of the maxillary bones (particularly a panoramic image) and skin biopsy provided confirmation of diagnosis. The course of Christ-Siemens syndrome is dominated by the extent of the thermal disorders during the first three months of life, and the functional and psychological disturbances related to the absence of the teeth and to the "appearance" of the patient.

Child↗

[Kniest's disease].

A one year old child with Kniest's disease was admitted for reconstructive surgery of the bone deficit of a palatine cleft. This syndrome is recognizable at a very early age by the shortness of the limbs or the increase in size of the joints. Clinically it associates mild facial dystrophy and nanism from reduction in height of the trunk and the shortness and deviations of the limbs. Frequently associated are myopia, deafness and a palatine cleft. Radiological signs are reduced height of vertebral bodies, and a not infrequent finding is a cuneiform deformity of the first lumbar vertebrae. Epiphyseal development is anarchic, that of the knee large, while the femoral head is small, fragmented or absent. Transmission is by the dominant mode. Kniest's syndrome must be differentiated from metratropic dwarfism in which there is greater progression of spinal deformities.

[The contribution of sulpiride to ketamine anesthesia].

The authors think that it can be asserted that Sulpiride protects the patient from neuropsychic effects of Ketamine in an almost complete manner, and this without prolonging the sleeping time, or depressing circulation or respiration.

Adult↗

[100 malar fractures].

Fractures of the malar are treated by therapeutic methods which are simple to put into operation and very effective based on osteosynthesis, screw-in plates, grafts and, in particular, the well-tolerated silicone implants (54 cases without any signs of rejection). The 100 case histories show our successes and failures.

[Headaches of dental origin (author's transl)].

Headaches are frequent symptoms. Their etiology is due to multiple disturbances of various origins : vascular, digestive, arthrosic, ophthalmologic, ORL. The origin of a headaches is not always quickly revealable to the physician, and the usual analgesics do not soothe the pain. The studied cases prove that most of the headaches are accompanied by dental functional signs, and a panoramic radiography of the jaw can guide the diagnosis. For each studied case, the stomatologic treatment leads to the complete withdrawal of the aching symptom; therefore the presence of the dental etiology in headaches is proved.
