A 21-year-old patient was struck by the pulse of a rangefinder laser (infrared laser). The massive pathologic changes on his macula are explained by the focusing effect of the refractive media. Secure location of the beam, the avoidance of reflective surfaces and absorbing screens are recommended as protective measures.
Ophthalmoscopic and fluorescence angiographic findings are an important contribution to the diagnosis of Batten's disease. The changes of retina and pigment epithelium observed in three patients are discussed. With fluorescence angiography the fundus changes of Batten's disease can be distinctly substantiated, thus facilitating the early diagnosis.
Gilded molybdenum-wire remains in the sclera and episclera without any reaction of the tissue. Adjacent eye muscles are not involved. In two cases the loops penetrated slowly the sclera and choroid but not the retina.
For some time fibrin adhesion is successfully used instead of sutures in different branches of surgery. We tested in animal experiments whether this method can be used for a sutureless closure of perforating corneal and corneoscleral wounds. Our results up to now do not show us any such possibility.
A 31-year-old patient was buried at canal-building. He sustained Purtscher's retinopathy on his left eye. A fluorescein-angiography displayed six years after the trauma a large neovascular frond and intraretinal neovascular network. These findings demonstrate the severe lesions of the retinal microcirculation caused by the trauma.
