Autosomal dominant cone-rod dystrophy associated with sickle-cell trait in a Sicilian family.

Three Sicilian siblings had a typical cone-rod dystrophy. The same ocular anomaly was probably present in their mother and in the maternal grandmother. The three probands were also carriers of Hb S, but this last anomaly was also present in an unaffected brother. It is concluded that the cone-rod dystrophy of this family is inherited as an autosomal dominant character and that its association with sickle-cell trait is coincidental.

Transcranial Doppler ultrasound. Examination technique and normal reference values.

A newly developed Transcranial Doppler system (TCD) has been used in a group of subjects without any cerebrovascular disease (CVD) in order to establish the standard criteria for transcranial basal cerebral arteries examination and settle normal velocimetric and hemodynamic parameters. TCD examination in patients suffering from CVD provides useful information for clinical management of such pathological conditions.

Arteriovenous aneurisms of the spinal cord. Observations of 8 cases.

After description of the anatomy of spinal circulation, the Authors report some data from the literature concerning the localization, the incidence and the most frequent characteristics of spinal AVM. Afterwards, clinical and neuradiological features of the diagnosis of this type of malformation are reported from their experience on 8 patients directly observed. 6 out of the 8 patients were operated upon: decompressive laminectomy was performed on 4 of them; in 2 cases spinal AVM was completely removed with clear improvement.
