Asthma due to kerosene exposure: three case reports.
Three families comprising 6 adults and 3 children experienced prolonged exposure to kerosene vapour as a result of accidental domestic oil storage tank spills in 3 separate incidents. All were previously well but within 6 to 8 weeks, 3 children and one adult developed asthma which has persisted for more than 2 years. The 5 remaining adults developed upper and lower respiratory tract symptoms (but not asthma) and symptoms of conjunctival irritation. Levels of kerosene vapour were measured in all rooms in one household and were within accepted toxicological limits. Kerosene vapour is not considered toxic. Asthma caused by kerosene vapour is previously undescribed.

Concomitant alveolitis and asthma following exposure to triphenylmethane triisocyanate.
A 36-year-old man was admitted to hospital with increasing breathlessness. He had been exposed to triphenylmethane triisocyanate. Pulmonary function tests demonstrated physiological abnormalities consistent with both asthma and alveolitis. Exposure to less common isocyanates may not be immediately apparent. Asthma developing after isocyanate exposure is well recognized. Pneumonitis is a relatively rare complication. Measurement of gas transfer may be helpful in the investigation of isocyanate toxicity.

Pulmonary hypertension, systemic lupus erythematosus, and the contraceptive pill.
Pulmonary hypertension in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) in the absence of chronic parenchymal lung disease or pulmonary emboli is rare. We report such a case with an acute and rapidly progressive onset of symptoms in a patient who had started taking the contraceptive pill eight months previously.
