Sections of etched enamel and dentinal surfaces were examined to compare the acid solubility of normal hard tissue and determine the effects of various antibiotic substances. Considerable differences were observed, of which the correlation with cariogenesis and with the progression of caries are being discussed in detail. The results of this study show that treatment with antibiotics may lead to reductions in quality in infants, young children, and nursing mothers.
Comparative Vickers hardness measurements on hard dental tissues mineralized under normal conditions and under the influence of antibiotic substances showed substance-and dose-dependent variations in quality of superficial enamel and dentine. They were found to correlate with other physicochemical properties (acid solubility) and must be considered as belonging to what is generally referred to as structural anomalies. - Consequently, the administration of antibiotics to babies and young children should be reexamined because of possible late effects.

Histologic and fluorescence microscopic studies were performed on labelled calcium complexes to determine the beginning of the mineralization of rat incisors. The period of the first indications of tooth mineralization at the end of the 20th day of embryonic life is described in detail, special attention being paid to single hard tissue components.

The author in his present paper reports the effects on dams and their young of the administration to twelve gravid rabbits of Otesolut and Terramycin (20 mg, 60 mg, and 100 mg per kilogram of body weight)
The authors conclude from the results of preliminary model experiments that the composite resins Noracryl 100 and Evicrol are suited as materials for stump restoration after the loss of the natural tooth crown in case of primarily shortened root.
On the basis of epidemiologic studies on 10 106 sugjects from the population of the town of Rostock, the authors deal with the frequency of filled tooth areas and their affection by secondary caries with special regard to filling materials (silver-tin amalgam, silicate cement, inlay). The low frequency of secondary caries in tooth areas restored by means of inlays is noteworthy. Finally, the authors give recommendations for practice.
On the basis of radiographic studies on animals (rabbits), the authors determined the beginning of bone and dental hard tissue calcification. First signs of ossification were observed on the 17th day after copulation, whereas the calcification of the incisors began only on the 19th day after copulation.
The present paper deals with the results of clinical and radiographic examinations of 1996 children from nurseries and nursery schools, performed for the purpose of disclosing the caries experience of the deciduous molars and of their surfaces (subdivided into occlusal, mesial and distal surfaces) with regard to age. In the children from nurseries, caries was mainly experienced by the occlusal surfaces. In the children from nursery schools, caries occurred both occlusally and proximally. As to the first deciduous molars, caries was experienced more often distally (35.9%) than mesially (11.7%). The reverse held true for the second deciduous molars (distally, 7.0%; mesially, 31.7%).
