[Biochemical characterization of viral hepatitis in humans, using and not using narcotics].

AIM: To compare biochemical changes in viral hepatitis (VH) in drug abusers (DA) and non-abusers (NA). MATERIAL AND METHODS: Hepatic function was examined in 1125 patients with parenteral hepatitis, 540 of them were DA. Transaminases tests and protein precipitation tests were made at the disease height and in convalescence. RESULTS: In DA patients with VH biochemical changes were found more frequently than in NA. In convalescence, elevation of alaninaminotransferase was higher in DA than in NA. CONCLUSION: Drug abuse in VH patients influences biochemical indices. In DA with VH correlations of biochemical indices with the disease severity are less frequent than in NA, while changes of biochemical indices reflecting hepatic function occur more frequently and persist longer.

[Microcirculation in patients with viral hepatitis B taking ephedrone].

Circulation in ocular conjunctival vessels was studied in patients with viral hepatites B and B + C. Intravascular, vascular (mainly venular), and capillary changes were observed during the acute period of disease. The most common disorders were erythrocyte aggregation, venous congestion, and reduction of capillary network. Use of narcotics augments the disorders in blood delivery. Pathological changes in microcirculatory system did not normalize by the end of hospital stay.

[The dynamics of the basic factors of nonspecific resistance in North Asian tick-borne typhus].

At the acute period of tick-borne typhus an increase in the activities of the main nonspecific resistance factors of the body, and particularly lysozyme, betalysins, complement and properdin, is observed. During convalescence the concentration of lysozyme normalizes and the content of betalysins remains sufficiently high, this indicating that, even in the absence of clinical sings of the disease, the disturbances in homeostasis persist. A decrease in the levels of complement and properdin during convalescence is seemingly linked with their consumption for the formation of immune complexes, eliminated from the body.

[The clinico-epidemiological characteristics of the course and diagnosis of tick-borne rickettsiosis in northern Asia].

The study of tick-borne rickettsiosis in Northern Asia has made it possible to determine the clinico-epidemiological features of the modern course of this disease, which should be taken into consideration for the timely diagnosis of this infection. The laboratory verification of the diagnosis should be carried out, as recommended by the authors, in the agar precipitation and leukocytosis tests in their modification.

[Cellular immunity factors of tick-borne typhus patients in northern Asia].

In patients with North Asian tick-borne typhus fever the deficiency of the T-system of immunity, most pronounced in the acute period of the disease, is observed, which is manifested by low values of lymphocyte blast-transformation and rosette-formation. A decrease in the number of active E-rosette-forming cells depends on the severity of the disease. The shifts in the T-system of immunity, appearing in patients with North Asian tick-borne typhus fever, are compensated for comparatively quickly, the normalization of the functional activity of T-lymphocytes occurring sooner than the restoration of their number. The specific dynamics of the characteristics of cell-mediated immunity in patients with North Asian tick-borne typhus fever is accompanied by a comparatively mild course of the disease and its favorable outcome.

[The prevalence of hepatitis B and C markers among narcotic users].

611 patients with acute parenteral virus hepatitis (VH) were studied with a view to find out markers indicating the presence of hepatitis B and hepatitis C virus infection (HB, HC, HB + C, HC + HBsAg). Of these, 166 patients (27.2%) systematically used narcotic drugs intravenously. Essential differences between drug users and VH patients without drug addiction were established regarding the distribution of patients by age and sex, the etiological structure and severity of the disease. Thus, in the group of drug users the prevalence of males, young people (15-29 years of age) and the mixed form of hepatitis B + C was noted. In VH patients using drug the disease took a more severe course than in such patients without drug addiction. The highest proportion of intravenously drug users with a severe and moderate course of the disease was found among patients with HB + C and HB.

[The immune response of viral hepatitis patients who use narcotic preparations].

The characteristics of cell-mediated and humoral immunity were studied in 611 patients with different etiological forms of acute virus hepatitides (HB, HC, HB + C, HC + HBsAg). As the result of the systematic abuse of psychoactive preparations, introduced by intravenous injection, in 166 patients (27.2%) drug addiction developed, ehile 445 (72.8%) patients had no addiction. The study revealed that in drug users with HB the secondary T-cell immunodeficiency of the hyposuppressor type in combination with depression in B-cell-mediated immunity (a decrease in the absolute number of B lymphocytes) could be registered, and in patients having no drug addiction the secondary T-cell immunodeficiency characterized by a decrease in the content of T helpers simultaneously with the increased content of T suppressors and B lymphocytes.
