Pleura carcinosis. Cytomorphological findings with the mistletoe preparation iscador and other pharmaceuticals.

Over 160 cases of pleura carcinosis were treated systematically by local intrapleural instillation of Iscador, and the results were documented by cytomorphological examination of the punctate. The results show that, under these conditions, Iscador has two distinct activities, i.e. cytotoxic activity and immunostimulating activity.

[Prevention of recurrence of bronchial carcinomas after surgery by means of the mistletoe extract Iscador. Results of a clinical study from 1969-1971].

The results of a clinical study performed between 1969 and 1971 are reported. For prophylactic treatment against possible recurrence the mistletoe preparation Iscador was used in cases with operated cancer of the bronchial tree. The comparability of this group with a control series is tested. The Wilcoxon test in the modification of GEHAN proves a statistically significant prolongation of survival time in the Iscador group.

[The local treatment of malignant pleural exudations with Iscador (a drug obtained from Misteltoe). Preliminary report (author's transl)].

12 cases of malignant pleural exudations were treated with suction and instillation of 1 cm3 5% Iscador into the pleural cavity. In all of them only a few ingressions were necessary to dry out the area.

[Investigation to improve the survival of patients with bronchial carcinomas "radically operated" (author's transl)].

The conservative postoperative treatment of patients with successfully resected bronchial carcinoma is described. The drug employed was ISCADOR, deriving from mistle. A comparison is made between 37 treated and 41 untreated cases. After 3 to 5 years 22 of group one and only 9 of group two (controls) are still alive.
