[The correlation of blood pressure, cholesterol and triglyceride concentration with the administration of hormonal contraceptives in women from 2 Erfurt large-scale plants].

Within the framework of medical check-ups of heart and circulatory system 1,296 women at the age from 15 to 49 years were examined in two Erfurt large plants. Women with hormonal contraception in the age groups 30-34, 35-39 and 45-49 showed statistically significantly higher mean values of the systolic blood pressure than women without oral contraception. In the same way the difference of the cholesterol mean value of 15.3 mg/100 ml and 11 mg/100 ml depending on the intake of ovulation inhibitors could be statistically ascertained in women at the age of 20-24 and 30-34 years. Women with hormonal contraception have statistically significantly higher triglyceride mean value in the age group 15-24 and 35-44 years than the women without oral contraception.

Medical Audit

[Cardiovascular preventive medical check-ups in the large industrial plants of Erfurt. 1. Implementation of the screening phase].

During a medical check-up for the recognition and treatment of patients with diseases of heart and circulation or their early stages and of patients with factors of risk in two large factories of Erfurt altogether 6,646 men and women were examined. The screening was carried out in November 1975 and 1976 in immediate nearness of the working place. The times during which could not be worked were thus reduced to a minimum. Some organisational problems and their solutions in the preparation and performance of the screening phase as well as first results are reported on.

Cardiovascular Diseases

[Therapy of chronic ischemic heart disease and arterial hypertension by means of beta-receptor blockaders].

50 patients with stenocardias in persisting arterial hypertension, of them 33 manifest coronary diseases, were orally treated with doses of propranolol up to 400 mg/die during a longer period. In the majority of the cases a good to very good therapeutic effectivity was to be proved in hypertension as well as in chronic ischaemic heart disease. The own favourable results of the treatment justify the estimation that proporanolol may be regarded as therapeutic remedy of choice in patients with simultaneous hypertension and chronic ischaemic heart disease. Moreover, a collective of 45 patients with different cardiovascular diagnoses under the new selective beta-receptor blocker Bonnecor (practolol) was observed. It is reported on first experiences in the sense of an intermediate information.

Adult

[Comparison of various screening methods for the diagnosis of chronic ischemic heart disease].

The screening phase of a multifactorial intervention study which is carried out under the direction of the WHO and the aim of which is the influence on mild forms of hypertension, hypercholesterolaemia and slightly disturbed glucose tolerance was supplemented by an electrocardiogram after work under the conditions of screening. The questionnaire contained in the investigation program for the statistical establishment of a typical angina pectoris after work according to Rose and the modified electrocardiographic test after work were tested concerning their evidence in the early recognition of a coronary sclerosis. As reference test served the Watt-step-test recommended by a group of experts of the WHO. An extensive correlation between screening after work and Watt-step-test was found. Questionnaire according to Rose and gradual load, however, had a smaller correspondence. The result of other investigations was that the distribution of the factors of risk does not give any clear reference to the existence of a latent coronary insufficiency.
