[Effect of the thoracic pumping function on venous return in chronic experiments].

In cats with implanted ultrasonic transducers, interrelationships between phasic oscillations of the blood flow in posterior v. cava due to the chest sucking function and changes of intrapleural pressure, were studied. Linear dependence of shifts of these parameters was only observed in an increased pressure and respective drop in venous blood flow. The dependence was absent in drop of the pressure and increase of venous blood flow. The ratio of the intrapleural pressure shift to magnitude of phasic changes of the blood flow in the posterior v. cava (the pumping coefficient) is suggested for estimation of effect of the chest sucking function upon the venous outflow and for relative estimation of rigidity of the vascular bed's venous portion.

[Blood flow in the inferior vena cava measured by a Doppler ultrasound flowmeter in chronic experiments on cats].

Supercound Doppler's transducers indwelled in the cat v. cava posterior revealed that the higher blood flow values in chronic experiments as compared to acute ones were due to the effect of the chest suction action on the blood flow. The phasic changes of the venous blood flow occurring at resting and under various effects were related to respiration and heart activity, the respiratory component being more obvious than the cardiac one. A significant correlation existed between the mean value of the blood flow in the v. cava posterior and the respiratory changes of the blood flow amplitude.

[Shifts in systemic hemodynamics, local blood flow and brain temperature during stimulation of its structures in a chronic experiment].

Electric stimulation of the midbrain reticular formation, of the anterior and posterior hypothalamus of unrestrained cats entailed local raise of cerebral temperature, increase in the local blood flow, and various changes of the central arterial and venous pressure. The stimulation parameters were lower than thresholds for motor responses. The threshold and suprathreshold stimulation of the stem structures led in 60% of cases to diminishing of the local cerebral blood flow together with the pressor shifts in arterial pressure and the raise of local cerebral temperature. The diminishing of the cerebral blood flow contrdictory to increasing demands of the brain tissue for energy supply, could be accounted for by the generalized excitation of the sympatho-adrenal system and indicated inadequacy of the electric brain stimulation when studying hemodynamic components of the emotional-behavioral responses.

[Local temperature characteristics of the isolated cortex in wakefulness and alteration of the sleep stages].

In cats, changes of the brain electric activity were followed by local temperature shifts in isolated and in intact cortex: the transition from slow wave sleep to paradoxical sleep and from quiet to active wakefulness were accompanied by increasing of the cortex temperature, while transition from paradoxical sleep to slow sleep decreased the temperature. During falling asleep and alternation of the sleep stages, both in isolated and intact cortex, the temperature shifts preceded the electric activity changes. The temperature of isolated cortex is by 0.2 degrees lower than that of the opposite intact hemisphere.
