[Treatment of depressive conditions with S-methylmethionine (vitamin U)].

Results of treating depressive states (manic-depressive psychosis, involutional and vascular depressions) with S-methylmethionine (vitamin "U") are presented. The vitamin was found to produce a marked antidepressant effect in depressive states of various nosology irrespectively of the duration of the depression phase or preceding treatment. The authors suggest that studies of the effect of the vitamin and its clinical use as an antidepressant should be continued.

[Influence of extrapyramidal disorders induced by haloperidol on phenamine stereotypy and the effects of schizophrenic patients' serum (experimental study)].

Experiments on white mice demonstrated that the appearance of extrapyramidal disturbances depends upon the scheme of haloperidol administration. A long-term use of the preparation leads to development of habituation, while its cessation--to symptoms similar to withdrawal. The development of extrapyramidal disturbances does not increase the antagonism of haloperidol in relation to phenamine, but distinctly increases and prolongs the activizing action of the blood serum of schizophrenic patients on the behaviour of animals.

[Neuropsychologic study of schizophrenic patients with a "substitution syndrome"].

Using neuro-psychological methods the authors studied 10 schizophrenic patients with the syndrome of "substitution" and 10 schizophrenic patients without it, where they were selected by the principle of pair control. It was established that disturbance of identification of faces on photographs and a reproduction of simple rhythmical structures was significantly more frequently found in patients with the syndrome of "substitution" in comparison with the control group. The remaining tests did not detect any significant differences between the groups. The conclusion is made that the formation of the syndrome of "substitution" is related to a lesion of the right occipital and possibly the right temporal lobe.
