[Appraisal and rehabilitation of psychiatric patients - conclusions for semi-institutional centers in psychiatry].

The results of an analysis of the disablement of patients suffering from ental diseases (1364 newly invalid patients in the county of Dresden in the period from 1968 to 1975) of diagnostic groups of the International Classification of Diseases being important for the national economy (diagn. numbers 295-298, 300, 301, 305) are presented and the respective conclusions drawn. In the expert rehabilitation system, the semi-clinical establishments are an important chain-link because by means of occupational training at the workplace (displace therapy) residual capacities can be exactly appraised, occupational rehabilitation systematically instituted and thus early declaration invalidity prevented.

[Indications, contraindications and legal problems in antiandrogen treatment].

The author in his present paper gives an outline of the indications, contraindications, and legal problems of Androcur treatment. Androcur (cyproterone acetate) is an antiandrogen that is capable of competitively inhibiting androgens in the organism. Accordingly, the effects obtained by drug therapy, of which the purpose is to reduce the sexual desire or libido, are similar to those produced by operative castration. The use of such drugs makes it possible to control abnormal sex drives and desires and prevent sexual offenders from becoming recidivous. Since treatment with Androcur is an intervention in the deeply personal sphere and there is not yet availability any reliable data on the full reversibility of the phenomena involved (for example, alterations to the testicles) especially in the case of long-time treatment, such therapy should be carried out on the principle of absolute voluntariness and after suitable suggestions have been furnished as to the proper treatment of the respective subject.

[Day-night therapy- a necessary step towards better care for mental patients].

The authors, after giving an outline of the history of what is known as day-clinics, comment on the importance of such institutions as a link between psychiatric inpatient and outpatient treatment. The results obtained in the treatment in day-clinics of 120 mental patients are compared with those obtained for 120 inpatients. Also discussed are a number of conclusions drawn from results to date. The authors finally consider the future development of this particular field of therapy.

[Psychiatric and neurological problems of the older age (author's transl)].

Pyschical crisis and pathological change do not differ at people in the older age. The two terms do not characterize the normal development of the old age, but extreme spheres are circumscribed. The cerebrovascular insufficience is a difficult diagnostic and therapeutic area, but it is accissible. The psychopathological symptoms to be caused by this disturbance are reversible in many cases. The problems of a comprehensive diagnostic and therapy of sleeping-disturbances at aged people are described.
