A new feature has been developed to increase the efficiency of the widely used back-flush needle aspirator. The main feature of the new design is its almost completely nontraumatic effect on the retina, increasing the scope of application of the instrument.

We have developed a back-flush needle with a built-in capability for endodiathermy. This new instrument can both aspirate blood and coagulate the bleeding vessel.

Improvement in microsurgical techniques and tissue storage has resulted in a higher rate of clear grafts after penetrating keratoplasty. The postoperative astigmatism however still remains a major problem. If a high corneal astigmatism cannot be managed successfully with glasses or contact lenses, a surgical approach may be indicated. We developed a V-shaped knife which makes a crescentic wedge resection easier to perform. Before the introduction of the V-shaped knife we obtained an average reduction in corneal astigmatism of 6.6 diopters. With the V-shaped knife the reduction was 8.0 diopters. We think that the V-shaped knife makes a wedge resection easier and safer.
A new binocular indirect ophthalmoscope provides, apart from a much reduced weight as compared with most available instruments, a higher light output and improved optics.

Two fundus cameras were used in the development of a setup for bilateral fluorescein angiography. The indications for this method are listed and examples of simultaneous fluoroangiograms are given. This technique allows the simultaneous study of hemodynamics in the carotid artery, the study of intraocular and anterior eye segment circulatory disturbances, and it is time-saving in bilateral pathology.
