Permanent diagnostic provisional restorations for predictable results when redesigning the smile.

In order to determine the optimal method of patient care, the patient's existing clinical condition must be accurately diagnosed and treatment objectives (eg, biocompatibility, aesthetics, long-term function) established accordingly. Once analysis of the condition is complete, the correct restorative procedure can be selected and the complications presented by the patient can be addressed. Comprehensive radiographic and clinical examinations are integral in determining the preoperative status of the patient and, consequently, in evaluating the possibility of actually achieving a successful rehabilitation.

Predictable, precise, and repeatable tooth preparation for porcelain laminate veneers.

Advances in dental materials and techniques have enabled porcelain laminate veneers to evolve into the treatment of choice for minimally invasive aesthetic dentistry. Treatment planning and tooth preparation are crucial for optimal function and aesthetics. While minimal invasion is important, sufficient space must be provided for the appropriate porcelain buildup. Various preparation guidelines have been advocated for porcelain veneers, yet they vary in accuracy and by indication. This article provides a simple, precise technique for veneer preparation regardless of tooth position and condition.

Restorative space management: treatment planning and clinical considerations for insufficient space.

In attempting to provide a restorative solution for cases that have been compromised by spatial considerations, clinicians have traditionally opted for an orthodontic approach that did not provide optimal aesthetics due to changes in tooth morphology, specifically tooth size and shape as a result of dental deterioration. With the advent of contemporary aesthetic materials and preparation techniques, clinicians and technicians are now empowered to deliver a penultimate result with minimal compromise to the surrounding dentition. This article presents the clinical and laboratory considerations that must be addressed when providing a prosthetic restoration for crowded teeth.
