[Current review of the detection and treatment of dislocating dysplasias of the hip in early childhood (author's transl)].

The authors reviewed 80 cases of CDH and hip dysplasia. Cases have been classified in two groups, the first one corresponding to the children who were seen during the first month of life, the second group involving the children from two to five months old. This classification emphasizes the frequent delay to the treatment in spite of an early diagnosis. This study has led the authors to define the head at risk and to underline the way of a quick cure after a simple treatment when it is early. The study of the two groups allows the authors to codify the rules of the treatment and point out the need of a long follow up.

[Rotational abnormalitites of the hip in children].

The revision of a course of documents allow the authors to state the course of the femoral antetorsion and to individualize retrotersion's cases. The study has ruled out sequelae of congenital hip dislocation. An approach of the X-ray's orientation of the acetabulum is tempted to appreciate its part in the rotation's anomalies of the hip. At last, the surgical directions are stated.

[Comments about 600 club feet (author's transl)].

This review summarizes functional treatment of club foot along 25 years lead by the pediatric orthopedists of the Bretonneau's Hospital (Paris). The efficiency of this technic is therefore appreciated through 600 cases submitted to a long follow up. The results are analyzed according analytic, clinical and radiographic tests. Its synthesis is also considered at the main stages of the growth of the child and till the end of the growth for most of them. The homogeneity of the team and the long follow-up of this process elaborated at the Bretonneau's Hospital in 1952 accounts the rate of good results which avoid surgery for half of the children. The constant improvement of this functional treatment will refine this original procedure in the future.

[Expanding intramedullary rods in the treatment of osteogenesis imperfecta (author's transl)].

Eleven cases of osteogenesis imperfecta were treated by corrective osteotomies and fixation with expanding intramedullary rods. The authors have used the Bailey-Dubow nail. Despite a short follow-up (average one year) they think that the device will avoid future repeated changes of rods during the growing period. Several technical pitfalls are described. It is thought that the same technique could be applied to congenital pseudarthrosis of the tibia.

[Reflexion on thirty eight cases of Monteggia fracture of children (author's transl)].

The authors report thirty eight cases of Monteggia fractures, seven of which being old dislocations of the head of the radius. They insist on early diagnosis and treatment of recent fractures, with a successful result if the ulnar hache become rightly alined. In late untreated luxations of the head of the radius, they occasionally use fascia lata transplant to repair the annular ligament, after correction of ulnar hache. However, early diagnosis and immediate full treatment are the best for successful result.

[Contribution of scintigraphy in non-infectious hip diseases in children].

Radioisotopic examination in children's hip disorders permits an approach to vascular pathology, useful in establishing both diagnosis and prognosis. In this paper, particular attention is devoted to Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease, because of the gravity of the sequellae encountered. Acute transient synovitis and its relation to the preceding affection is briefly discussed. Lastly, Meyer's dysplasia, whose pathogenesis is still not certain, is mentioned. An attempt is made to deduce a practical therapeutic attitude.

[Osteoid osteoma in childhood (author's transl)].

15 cases of osteoïd osteoma are studied and the various investigations are considered. The authors underline the specific characters of this bony tumour of which early diagnosis is difficult for the X-ray signs often delay. They emphasize a complet pathologic investigation of all the specimens. The prognosis is evaluated and possibility of relapse. So the rules of the surgical treatment of the osteoïd osteoma are stated.

Bone Neoplasms↗

[Fractures of the spine in children without permanent neurological injuries].

Three cases of trauma of the spine are reported compared with dislocation of the cervical spine; these mixed lesions are especially rare. They usually produce various spinal disorders which result in irreversible paralysis. The young age of one of these children and the favourable course, shows the interest of emergency repair of the damage. Reduction of the dislocation followed by internal fixation, may lead to a favourable course.
