[Does the open palm technique for surgery of Dupuytren's contracture extend treatment and disability duration? A retrospective study].

In the operative treatment of Dupuytren's contracture stage II to IV according to Iselin and Dieckmann (1951), we often prefer the open-palm technique by McCash (1964). In the past ten years, we have treated 1461 cases of Dupuytren's disease. With the assistance of a health insurance company, we followed up 214 cases. When compared to those cases treated with primary wound closure, there was no difference in regard to return to work time.

[Swanson prosthesis or resection arthroplasty? A comparative study].

Two different surgical methods for basal joint arthrosis (implantation of a Swanson condylar prosthesis and resection arthroplasty) are compared. The medium-term results are roughly comparable. However, the indication for prosthesis implantation is much more limited than that of resection arthroplasty.

[Fibrous hyperplasia of the flexor tendon sheaths as a main cause of carpal tunnel syndrome].

The diagnosis of a carpal tunnel syndrome constitutes a frequent indication for surgery. The need for the operation should be underscored by a neurological investigation with measurement of distal motor latency and the sensory conduction rate in the median nerve. According to an evaluation of 3,816 cases treated surgically, the main cause of the carpal tunnel syndrome is a histologically demonstrated fibrous hyperplasia of the flexor tendon sheaths.
