[The respirophonogram as a means of drug screening (author's transl)].

Respirophonography is an objective method of measuring respiratory and adventicious sounds. Current techniques make a perfect, albeit somewhat tedious registering of these respiratory murmurs possible, which can then be analysed for frequency. In this paper the method is investigated for its applicability to drug screening and proved satisfactory in a double blind trial and a pilot study. During treatment with secretolytic drugs the pathological respiratory sounds change or cease. In the respirophonogram this is recognisable by the fact that the volume peaks are either displaced to another frequency area or that they disappear altogether. The frequency range 100--500 Hz is the most significant as far as the respiratory murmurs are concerned. The concepts familiar to the clinician experienced in auscultation are set out in an unaccustomed way in the frequency-volume diagram. The respirophonogram offers the advantage that it can be documented and that findings can therefore be compared objectively. From the point of view of the clinician respirophonography is despite its far reaching perfection already attained, still technically in a preliminary stage.

[Therapeutic study on ambroxol in chronic bronchopulmonary diseases (author's transl)].

The clinical activity of trans-4-[(2-amino-3,5-dibromo-benzyl)-amino]-cyclohexanol-hydrochloride (ambroxol, NA 872) as well as its influence on lung function was examined in a total of 63 patients (34 suffering from silicosis, 28 from chronic obstructive bronchitis and 1 from cryptococcosis). Additionally, the content of phospholipids was controlled in the sputum of the patient group. It was shown that the activity of ambroxol was better in the silicosis group than in the bronchitis group. The cause was discussed. Presumably the twofold site of action in the silicosis group (secretolysis and surfactant stimulation) might be the reason for this.

[Hemostatic disorders with secretolytics? A contribution to drug safety].

Based on literature and on the results of this open clinical trial we conclude, that there is no connection between application of the above named group of drugs and the change in parameters of haemostasis function, which might lead to a manifest haemorrhagic diathesis. Within the period surveyed of 14 days no case of induced coagulopathy and particularly no thrombocytopenia was seen. The substances under consideration themselves did not exert any anticoagulatory effect nor did they potentiate or inhibit the effect of a concurrently given cumarin derivative.
