[Glycogen and lipids in the developmental cycle of helminths].

Survival, vitality and potency for development and infectivity of the larvae of helminths are discussed in relation to lipid-glycogen disposition depending on the environment of first order (host) and the environment of second order (environment of the host). The "cycle" of glycogen and fat is demonstrated basing on the thesis on "helminths with short time and long time development" with Ascaris lumbricoides as example. The figure shows that the different quantitative parts of glycogen and fat are the physiological base for the function of the developmental cycle of A. lumbricoides.

[A new method for the preparation of special alloplastic implants for partial replacement of the pelvis].

Partial replacement of the pelvis by special prosthesis after resection for malignant lesions becomes more and more a rewarding alternative to the mutilating amputive procedures. A new method is recommended facilitating the forming of suitable prostheses. With computerized axial tomography it is possible to construct an actual sized three-dimensional model of the patients pelvis. This model is a very useful aid in preparing the special prosthesis as it corresponds exactly with the anatomic shape of the resected part.

[Long-term coverage of defect-wounds using synthetic skin substitute].

According our experiences non-infected defect wounds can be covered with Epigard even for a long time without problems. Changing the skin substitute is not necessary. Thus the danger of bacterial contamination is reduced and a reliable prevention of infection results. Weeks or months later an ideal base for autodermic grafting is obtained. Our method is indicated particularly for treatment of open fractures with skin defects. Long-term cover of infected tissue cannot always be achieved; in this case another therapeutic way should be attempted.

Technique and results of endoscopic retrograde pancreaticocholangiography. A preliminary report on 140 patients.

Endoscopic retrograde pancreaticocholangiography (ERPC) has been performed in 140 patients, mainly Blacks and Indians. The first 100 patients have been analysed. The greatest diagnostic yield in this series is in (suspected) obstructive jaundice, where 26 diagnoses were made in 35 patients. In 40 patients with pancreatitis, the widest ducts were seen in 12 patients with calcific pancreatitis, but the procedure was of less help than expected. This was because no patients with continual pain after cessation of alcohol intake were found with operable strictures of the main pancreatic duct. The pancreatic function test with secretin and cholecystokinin-pancreozymin correctly diagnosed 4 patients with non-calcific pancreatitis in whom the ERPC was normal. There was a useful diagnostic yield in patients with unexplained upper gastrointestinal symptoms (15 diagnoses were made in 23 patients).

[Taeniarhynchosis in the GDR. Data on the incidence during 1966-1973. Report given during the IVth symposium of the GDR on "Taeniarhynchosis-Cysticercosis" on April 26th, 1974 in Schwerin].

In GDR since 1965 infection with Taeniarhynchus saginatus became a notifiable disease. The infection can be transmitted through food but also can infect people directly. The infection can only reach man through officially tested meat and processed meat. Infection of T. saginatus increased from 1966-1973 per 1000 inhabitants from 1.5 to 4.5 in some districts, Magdeburg, Gera, Suhl and Karl-Marx-Stadt, in some others even higher. The highest rate of infection was found in persons between 21 and 50 years old. The control of taeniarhynchosis is an urgent problem of public health. Firm medical measures are submitted for discussion.
