Level of nursing care vs life quality of patients in the terminal stage of a disease.

A patient whose treatment has been unsuccessful and a disease still develops enters a terminal stage of the disease which inevitably leads to death. In nursing the evaluation of care quality and measuring its influence on the quality of patients' life have become enormous challenges and are placed among the most crucial issues. The aim of the research is to evaluate the relationship between the quality of nursing services and the life quality of patients in the terminal stage of a disease. The research activities were carried out in five centres of palliative care, 57 nurses and 99 patients in the terminal stage of a disease were involved. The BOHIPSZO method was used to analyse the quality of care, life quality of the patients was measured by means of RSCL--The Rotterdam Symptom Checklist. The material was subject to statistical analysis. The research results show that high level of hospice nursing care positively affects the quality of life in its physical and psychological spheres.

Retrospective evaluation of cervical smears in women harbouring biopsy proven SIL.

Detection and evaluation of cervical pre-neoplasia is the purpose of cervical cytologic screening in the prevention of death from cervical carcinoma. This investigation is an attempt to evaluate previously taken cervical smears in women harbouring a biopsy proven squamous intraepithelial lesion (SIL). All cervical smears sampled during 4 years prior to biopsy as well as some of the smears during a 5 year follow-up were re-examined for 208 women who in a defined geographical area, the County of Gävleborg, in 1988 had a biopsy proven squamous intraepithelial lesion (SIL). The present study shows that a patient with a LSIL in the Pap smear is at high risk of harbouring or developing cervical squamous intraepithelial neoplasia.

[Selected markers of cell-mediated and humoral immunity in children with chronic pyelonephritis].

The studied group comprised 38 boys and girls aged from 7 months to 5 years with chronic pyelonephritis. Counts of B and T-cells and serum concentrations of IgG, IgM, IgA were determined. A significant depression was noted of the per cent proportion of T-cells in relation to the control group of healthy children with a significantly lower IgM concentration without significant changes in IgG and IgA levels.
