An experimental model of primary obstructive megaureter was developed in the growing minipig. This model was used to compare 2 different techniques of megaureter reduction and reimplantation. Radiographic and microangiographic studies of the excisional ureteroplasty and ureteral folding techniques were done. The folding technique was judged to be superior owing to better maintenance of blood supply.
We report a rare case of leiomyosarcoma of the renal vein. There have been only 5 other such cases reported in the literature. Special attention is focused on the diagnostic problems and the paucity of presenting symptoms. The literature is reviewed briefly.
Referring to a patient operated on the third day of life for pyeloureteral stenosis the 'prune belly' syndrome is described. The syndrome is delineated by urinary tract anomalies, undescended testicles and a prune like abdominal wall. Several other anomalies are commonly seen. In this patient the megaureters, the vesicoureteral reflux and megacystis are considered part of the syndrome. The pyeloureteral stenosis was only seen once before in a succumbed newborn.
