[Regional adjuvant therapy in colorectal liver metastases: requirements for clinical therapy studies from the statistical viewpoint].

The most important methodical principles of clinical trials in oncology are presented and applied to the special field of adjuvant chemotherapy for liver metastases in colorectal cancer. The presentation is based on accepted biometrical principles in medicine and on our experience in several cancer trials. Special regard is given to the German multicenter study of the liver metastases working group in the "Deutsche Krebsgesellschaft".

[Wedge-shaped defects of animal teeth].

Wedge-shaped defects of teeth of animals are described. Only herbivorous and omnivorous animals showed them. It is suggested that in addition to a mechanical abrasion there are chemical influences on the organic component of the dentin.

The induction of cytochrome P-450 in Lodderomyces elongisporus.

In the alkane-utilizing yeast strain Lodderomyces elongisporus cytochrome P-450 is induced by aliphatic hydrocarbons and to a lesser degree also by some of their derivatives. Cycloheximide and glucose inhibit the induction process, the former by inhibition of cytoplasmic translation, the latter presumably by catabolite repression. Among the nearly 40 checked compounds tetradecane and 1-tetradecene are the most effective inducers. The branching of the alkyl chain as well as the terminal introduction of electrophilic atoms decrease the induction effect.
