[Norfloxacin treatment of asymptomatic bacteriospermia in male subfertility].

20 patients with pathospermia and asymptomatic bacteriospermia of more than 10(5) bacteria/ml received an oral treatment with 800 mg Norfloxacin daily for ten days. An complete spermiogram including motility assessments with laser-Doppler-spectroscopy, round-cell counts, evaluation of number and types of microorganisms was performed before treatment and within one week after treatment. As results, a statistically significant decrease of number of bacteria and round-cells was observed in the ejaculates, whereas the other spermiogram-parameters remained unchanged.

[Motivation and compliance of andrology patents].

150 randomized patients from the andrology department of the University Hospital for Gynecology and Obstetrics, Graz, Austria have been evaluated concerning their motivation, cooperation and compliance. To gain basic data from andrology patients and to analyze consequences after the first clinical examination was one of the purposes of this study. The compliance concerning suggested therapy and necessary control spermiograms was another subject of interest. By means of a questionnaire the wifes of the patients were asked to evaluate, how their husbands used the prescribed medicaments. 83% of the male patients showed a very regular intake of their oral long time treatment. Absolute nicotine carency as a basis for further treatment was accepted by 63% of smokers. Another problem concerned the communication of achieved pregnancies of the andrologist. The rate of communicated pregnancies rose from 10% to 16,7% when a questionnaire was sent to the patients. The results of this study confirm the experience, that patients who desire children show a higher degree of cooperation and compliance than usual.

[Measurement of sperm motility by Laser-Doppler-spectroscopy in routine andrology lab tests].

Sperm motility of 177 ejaculates from the andrology laboratory, University Clinic for Gynecology and Obstetrics, Graz/Austria, was evaluated in a comparative study. Motility was measured by Laser-Doppler-Spectroscopy (Lazymot) and by means of conventional microscopic estimations. For the first time results gained with Lazymot have been associated to different spermiogram diagnoses. In addition to measurements of percentages of total sperm motility, evaluations of mean sperm motility in micron/sec. have been performed. Correlation of results was good for both methods, besides the problem groups of ejaculates with sperm densities below ten millions of spermatozoa per milliliter. Motility characteristics of spermatozoa in an in vitro-Fertilization-Program have been subject to objective measurements with Lazymot for the first time. An enhancement of total motility (16%) and of mean spermatozoal velocity (36%) could be observed in the fertilization media after capacitation. Laser-Doppler-Spectroscopy represents a reliable and fast method for motility determinations in human ejaculate. It is suited for research purposes as well as for andrologic routine work. The operation of the Lazymot is considered to be unproblematic.
