The effect of different cement insertion techniques on the bone-cement interface.

Since the introduction of cemented total hip arthroplasty, the method of cement usage has evolved through several generations. These changes may have been responsible for an improvement in femoral component longevity. The nature of the bone-cement interface in first-generation cementing techniques has been described, but the bone-cement interface in more recent cementing techniques has not. This article describes the bone-cement interface after 2 different cementing techniques in a canine total hip arthroplasty model.

Bizarre parosteal osteochondromatous proliferation of the hand in a young man.

We report a case of a solitary osteochondromatous tumor on the hand of a 38 yr old man. This had radiological and histological features distinct from an osteochondroma and demonstrated the features first described as bizarre parosteal osteochondromatous proliferation. These lesions have a tendency for local recurrence but no metastatic behaviour has yet been reported. We highlight 2 histological features which have not been previously described.

Testicular germ cell tumor with pineal metastases.

A patient with a mixed testicular germ cell tumor (choriocarcinoma, teratocarcinoma and embryonal carcinoma) that had metastasized to the lungs, cerebrum, and pineal gland is presented. The metastases had resulted in localized neurological signs and initially, on clinical grounds, a primary intracranial lesion could not be excluded. The occurrence of tumor metastases to the pineal gland is discussed and the literature is reviewed.

Dysplastic and malignant areas in hyperplastic polyps of the large intestine.

The clinical and pathological findings in a patient with 3 adenocarcinomas of the colon, 16 pure hyperplastic polyps, 1 hyperplastic polyp with adenomatous elements and 1 hyperplastic polyp with malignant transformation to adenocarcinoma within an area of adenomatous dysplasia are described. The possibility of neoplastic transformation of hyperplastic polyps is discussed.
