[Relationship between prolonged life span and changes of serum IAP and albumin induced by the therapy of lentinan plus tegafur in inoperable and recurrent gastric cancer].

Relationship between prolonged life span and changes of serum IAP and albumin induced by the therapy of lentinan plus tegafur were analysed on 43 cases with inoperable and recurrent gastric cancer. Antitumor effect was observed only in one case (2%). Other clinical effects such as improvement of performance status (PS), appetite or pain were observed in 18 cases (42%). Decrease of serum IAP was observed in 25 cases (58%) and increase of albumin was observed in 20 cases (47%). The changes of these two factors seemed to be reversely correlated. Among 30 cases which didn't show decrease of albumin, we found no increase of serum-IAP in 22 cases (72%). In the cases which showed decrease of serum IAP from abnormally high level (more than 500 mu/ml) and increase of albumin from abnormally low level (less than 3.5g/dl), prolonged life span was observed by comparison with the other cases. The cases with any clinical effect contained 78% of the cases without increase of serum IAP, and 72% of the cases without decrease of albumin. These results suggested that life prolongation effect or improvement of clinical symptoms by our therapy was closely related to the change of these serum factors.

Separation and characterization of three positional isomers of dimaltosyl-cyclomaltoheptaose (dimaltosyl-beta-cyclodextrin).

A mixture of maltosylcyclomaltoheptaoses (maltosyl-beta-cyclodextrins, G2-beta CDs) was prepared from maltose and beta-cyclodextrin (beta CD) through the reverse action of Klebsiella pneumoniae pullulanase. Three positional isomers of dimaltosyl-beta CD in the mixture were separated by high-performance liquid chromatography on a reversed phase column and a graphitized carbon column. Their molecular weights were measured by fast-atom bombardment mass spectrometry, and the structures were established by methylation analysis, hydrolysis with glucoamylase to the known compounds, three positional isomers of diglucosyl-beta CD, and 13C-nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy.

[Prediction of length and width of upper central incisor tooth in multivariate face information].

The possibility of accurately estimating a tooth crown length and width from measured distance of various face points was examined by using Multiple Correlation Analysis. The multiple correlation coefficient between a tooth crown length and the face point was 0.3137 and the residual standard error was 0.820; that between a tooth crown width and the face point was 0.3917 and its standard error was 0.467, obtained by substituted sample data for multiple regression equation.

Acoustic analysis of experimental prosthetic apparatus on spatial distribution formants.

This study concerns the effects of various prosthetic apparatus on speech perception. In this study we analyzed not only the first and second formant frequencies (as have often been studied previously) but also the third formant frequencies, and the three formant frequencies en masse. Our study demonstrated that of the six kinds of prosthetic apparatus we examined, the least effective apparatus was the L.S. type, while the most effective was the M.P. type.

[Observation of occlusal force in prosthetic crown cementings].

The method of pressure force in crown cementing was examined. Continuous occlusal force was always supported by the patients' personal occlusal force in cementing crowns. We found that continuous occlusal force continuously decreased as the occlusal force increased, and the decreasing morphologies were classified into four types, 'Rapid decrease', 'Step-wise decrease', 'Intermediate decrease' and 'Gradual decrease'.

Bite Force

[Performance of various prepared abutment forms. Posterior fixed bridge abutment].

The clinical techniques of the students were examined by analyzing the results of some measurements on the side wall inclination as a width and height of the full formed abutment of posterior fixed bridge, and the results of full covered crown data were compared. Significant differences in the inclination degree to the axis between upper and lower were not noticed in either premolars or molars on the mesio-distal side wall and bucco-lingual side wall, and were noticed between premolars and molars of the same jaw on both side walls. Margin diameter and height of diameter of the premolars showed a closer rank correlation than molars in mesio-distal side wall, but in bucco-lingual side wall, molars showed a closer rank correlation than premolars.

[Principal component analysis of the masticatory motion path during gum chewing].

This study examined the characteristics of masticatory motion path using multivariate analysis. Principal component analysis was selected as the method and various important results were revealed as follows; Approximately 70% of the information describing gum chewing motion was explained by three principal components. From factor loading, the first principal component explains back and forth movement from the end of the opening phase to the closed position, the second principal component explains left to right movement at the onset of the mouth opening phase, and the third principal component explains left and right movement at about the position of maximum opening. Using scatter diagrams combining the first and second principal components, as well as the first and third principal components, we were able to recognize delicate differents among the subjects, but to the different strokes of any subject, characteristic patterns were emerged.
