[Relationships between structure and activity of anthracycline antibiotics of the rhodomycin group: inhibition kinetics of DNA and RNA viruses of the double- and single-strand types].
Antiviral activity from anthracycline antibiotics of rhodomycin-type was investigated by two independent methods, which determined the infectious units and antigenity of incomplete virions. The action of rhodomycin was dependent on structure, number and position of amino sugar, which is in aglycon. The viruses of double-stranded DNA and RNA viruses was stronger inhibited as single-stranded RNA viruses. The antiviral activity were found to increase in the serial order iremycin less than adriamycin less than daunomycin less than alpha-rubicin I less than beta-rhodomycin I less than violamycin BI-complex by inhibition kinetic determined from Adeno virus.
Rotavirus persistence in malabsorption syndrome: virus assessment by immunofluorescence in small intestine biopsies in relation to antibody titres.
Results of quantitative immunofluorescence (IF) in small intestine biopsies and the serum antibody titres as detected by indirect Rotalex test in rotavirus infections were compared using regression and correlation analysis. Based on the significance of the statistically established correlation (r = 0.76; n = 30) between immunohistological identification of rotavirus antigen and determination of serum antibody levels, the indirect Rotalex test may be applied as a diagnostic tool to avoid biopsies in productive rotavirus persistence.
[Inhibition of fading in FITC-labelled coverslip preparations].
The influence of anti-fading-substances on the kinetic of fading FITC-labelled coverslip cultures was tested and a quantitative valuation theses compounds was performed. The half-life fluorescence intensity was detected with 2 different methods. The effect of 21 chemical substances was investigated whereof 7 compounds was determined as effective fading-inhibitors. The velocity constants of the 1st order (kapp) of photochemical reaction increase with rising hydrogen activity.
[Detection of rotavirus in patients with malabsorption].
Investigations were carried out to evaluate frequency and pathogenic effects of rotaviruses. For this purpose 53 biopsy specimens were taken from the jejunum, especially of children at an age up to 15. Because of their malabsorption the patients have undergone a special gastroenterological treatment for years or they only recently began with it, being suspected of suffering from this disease. Rotavirus antigen was indicated in 43% of the cases by means of immunohistology, at which only less part of the patients (sucklings and infants) showed a corresponding symptomatology. The greater part of the patients was without findings in the relevant sense.
[Rotavirus and malabsorption. Immunofluorescence microscopy studies of small intestine specimens].
Only 20% of the total of diarrheas in childhood are caused by bacteria . Compared to it, very often the causes for such diseases are viruses, especially rotavirus. The virus - localisation is known to be in enterocytes of the duodenal or jejunal mucosa. So it is probable that a destruction of villous structure linked with diminishing of enzyme activities-especially of lactase--can occur. 53 mucosa specimens were investigated from children by means of fluorescence microscopy. Cryo-cut-slices (8-10 mu) were fixed in acetone and marked with self-prepared rotavirus-hyperimmuneserum (against SA11-virus) and examined using the microscope Fluoval. The distribution of fluorescence along the villi or flat surface was semiquantitatively evaluated. All the investigated children - aged 1-15 years - had been suspected for malabsorption. In 23 of them rotavirus antigen was detected and partly a low activity of disaccharidases, especially of lactase, but also there were simultaneously 7 cases of confirmed coeliac disease in this group. So we conclude: In some patients the rotavirus infection is a complication of malabsorption syndromes; or in other cases it is an asymptomatic accidental finding in the small intestine mucosa.

[Epidemiologic study on the etiopathogenesis of multiple sclerosis].
A computer-aided evaluation of those affected with multiple sclerosis (n = 90) with regard to the actually discussed hypothesis on the aetiology of this disease results in 10 significant signs. These signs in their majority support the combined hypothesis of a disturbed regulation of infection and immunity. Frequently, as early as in childhood and youth the upper airways are affected, and this is coupled with a severe course of the disease. The incidence also shows familially and territorially frequent occurrences.
[Thrombophilic diatheses as hemostasis disorders in acute psychoses].
In acute psychotic states of agitation there is an enhanced incidence of thromboembolic complications. Hence, it is required to consider any intrapsychotic and postpsychotic deviations occurring in the regular clotting process, and to correct them therapeutically, if necessary.

[Use and results of the microscope photometry in the virology (author's transl)].
Labelled preparations are scanned fluorometrically and absorptionsphotometrically qualitative and quantitative evaluation. Thereby dynamic characteristics can be found which may serve as markers for different virus types. The titre, probability of detection and the required dilution for complete detection of antigens can be determined. The microscope photometry is applicable for screening of potential virostatica as well as topographic analyses of virus synthetisizing cells. The distribution of computer operated scanning photometry is ensued by digital plotter as a 3 dimensional or mosaic print out. Moreover, cadastres of the immunity can be obtained by the fluorometric technique.
[Erythrocytes as antigen-carrier for enzyme-immunoassay (author's transl)].
It is presented a method, which applied virus absorbing erythrocytes for enzyme-immunoassay. Antibodies, immunologically bound to sensitized erythrocytes, are enzyme-serologically detected and microscope-photometrically quantified. The comparison to the immunofluorescent technique shows a strong correlation of the titres r = 0.897.
[Influence of embedding media on the fading of FITC-labelled coverslip cultures [author's transl)].
The influence of embedding media on the fading of FITC-labelled coverslip cultures was tested. It was found, that the value of the fading depend on the pH value of the embedding media. In glycerin-PBS pH 8.5 as embedding media and immediate measuring the fluorescence intensity, the decrease of the fluorescence intensity after 300 seconds blue light excitation was 5%.
[Comparison between single-radial-hemolysis-test and indirect fluorescence-antibody-test for the serological diagnosis of influenza].
Two serological methods for the diagnosis of influenza were tested with sera of guinea pigs and compared. Up to now, both methods have only rarely been used in the diagnosis of influenza. The methods proved to be well reproducible and suitable for routine investigations. Correlation between antibody titres measured by SRH and FAT give a correlation coefficient of v = 0.75. The possible IgG-specificity of the SRH, indicated in the literature, is reported.
[Problems of symptomatology and epidemiology of early-summer meningoencephalitis (tick borne encephalitis)].
Three forms related to different age groups are discussed. Special attention is devoted to laboratory analyses in support of clinical diagnosis. A representative sample of sera from the healthy population of Thuringia showed 6.97 per cent positive sera. The difference between the exposed agricultural and forestry workers and industrial workers is significant. Moreover, there is a relationship between the extent of wooded country and the presence of microfoci.
