[Loss of thrombocytes in heart surgery with membrane and bubble oxygenators (author's transl)].
Thrombocyte levels of patients undergoing open heart surgery were studied to compare effects of a bubble with a membrane oxygenator. Loss of platelets, which is not explained by hemodilution, is smaller in membrane oxygenation and normal level of platelets is readily established postoperatively compared to conventional bubble oxygenation.

[General problems in long-surviving experimental animals following complete heart replacement].
Total heart replacement was performed in 7 calves. All animals were alive at 3 weeks, and four survived more than 2 months up to 121 days. Failure of the pumping equipment was responsible for death in each case. At autopsy increase both in size of the right atrium and of liver weight and evidence of thromboembolism were regular findings.

[Observation in 10 calves with a survival time of more than 100 hours after total heart replacement (author's transl)].
It is reported on 10 calves surviving total artificial heart replacement more than 100 hours. Pneumatically driven double-chambered blood pumps made of silastic were implanted. During the experiments an increase of the right atrial pressure as well as a rise of the perfusion volumes (CO) and of the blood volumes could be found regularly. At autopsy congestion of the organs especially of the liver was a regular finding. The changed hemodynamic is first seen as possible reason for this developments. The influence of anemia and the possible disturbances in the neurohumoral autoregulation of the animals by unphysiologic pressure curves are discussed.

Total drainage of the right lung into the right hepatic vein.
Report of a case oa anomalous venous drainage of the right lung into the right hepatic vein treated by disconnection of the anomalous pulmonary vein and end-to-side anastomosis to the left atrium. Following a review of 25 surgically treated patients with infracardiac drainage of the right lung the different surgical approaches are discussed.
