[Effects of fractionated whole body X-irradiation on the CNS of fetal mouse. Topographic and quantitative micromorphologic characterisation (author's transl)].

Whole body X-irradiation of pregnant NMRI-mice between day 11--13 after conception results in pathological morphogenesis of the CNS. These effects are reduction of dimensions of forebrain, desorganisation of structure and occurrence of spherical cell arrangements, the so called rosettes. These can be especially found in dorsal parts of the hemispheres and have been registered qualitatively by its number and dimension in the dose range between 3 X 110 R and 3 X 120 R. A clear correlation between the number of rosettes and the reduction of thickness of the hemisphere-walls can be demonstrated. These results will be fundamental for further studies concerning with reparation processes of the irradiation damage in postnatal stages.

Experience with 201 thallium in detection of myocardial infarction.

Our preliminary experimental and clinical results with 201Tl myocardial scanning are presented. 48 patients with normal coronary vessels, acute trasmural myocardial infarction, localized and diffuse coronary heart diseases and congestive myocardiopathy were investigated. Results of scans and the usual cardiological investigations were in good agreement thus justifying further use of 201Tl myocardial scintigraphy as an adjunctive method in cardiology.

[Clinical and experimental investigations with 201tl for noninvasive myocardial scintigraphy (author's transl)].

The biological distribution of 201Tl after intravenous injection was studied experimentally in 42 rats. It was found (see figure 1) that the kidneys showed the greatest affinity for 201Th, reaching an activity concentration of 6.6% per gramme of tissue, almost independently of time. Within the first 30 minutes of injection, myocardial activity exceeds that of the surrounding structures (10 min. p.i.: 4.24%/g; 30 min. p.i.: 2.58%/g). During this time the myocardium can be well demonstrated by "image processing". The relatively fast myocardial kinetics of 201Tl (half value time 33 minutes) make it necessary, strictly speaking, to use a scintillation camera. The clinical value of this method is illustrated by a number of case histories.

Distribution of 14-C-PCB during fetal period. Whole-body autoradiography of pregnant mice.

14-C-PCB containing 85% 2,2'-Dichlorobiphenyl was injected intramusculary in pregnant mice. The distribution of radioactivity was studied by using whole-body autoradiography technique. After its removal from the injection site, the major part of radioactivity was accumulated in maternal excretory organs: intestine, kidney, and urinary bladder. This indicated a rapid elimination of the 2,2'-Dichlorobiphenyl. High radioactivity could also be found in the gall bladder and a large amount in the liver. Comparatively less radioactive substance was present in the fat depots, skin, lung, and blood. At the beginning of the fetal period the uptake by fetuses was very low but about one day before the parturation moderate uptake occurred. At the end of gestation in fetuses, radioactivity was present predominately in the intestine and urinary bladder; it could also be detected in the liver and kidneys.
