[The tuberculosis situation in Vietnam].

The fight against tuberculosis in Vietnam is based on bacteriological case-finding since 1956. First pilot-studies with this method showed among the population of towns a very high incidence of smear-positive cases of about 2.5%. The systematic fight was interrupted by the war from 1964 to 1975. Nevertheless from an analysis of the TB-situation made in 1976 resulted a percentage of 0.14-0.37 in comparable groups of population. The relatively high number of smear-positive cases has decreased in 1980 to 0.03%. The actual program of the fight against TB and the targets of its different periods are described.

[Sarcoidosis in children in East Germany compared to its frequency in the Yugoslavian Socialist Republic].

Sarcoidosis in children is very rare. Especially asymptomatic cases are scarcely known. Sometimes extrapulmonary cases are found. These need a therapy with cortisone derivates. The danger of a false diagnosis is very high if it is based only on a X-ray film. A histological examination seems important. The cooperation between pediatrician and pneumologist is considered as important especially when the grown up patients pass on from pediatric care to the supervision of the pneumologist.

[Metaphylaxis, protection of the disabled and assessment of impairments by extra-pulmonary tuberculosis (author's transl)].

Problems of metaphylaxis, the care of disabled and impairments by extrapulmonary tuberculosis need special attention in the care of patients by the Policlinical Department for lung-diseases and tuberculosis. In order to realise and to approve the specific control recommendations for the follow-up and examination of impairments are given by which the work of care-services and the execution of control-measure on the appointed day in their daily activities is facilitated. Bacteriological control by culture and special X-ray-examination must be performed with superior rank. The assessment of impairments and the protection of the disabled correspond to the opinion of experts in these special fields where extrapulmonary tuberculosis has any importance.

[BCG-vaccination in the GDR--retrospective and prospective view (author's transl)].

A retrospective evaluation of BCG-vaccination from 1951--1977 shows the good effect on the number of TB-diseases especially among children. In former years with an annually infection-risk of 6--10% we found a big difference between TB-diseases in vaccinated and non-vaccinated persons. With the decreasing infections-risk (1977 0,05%) the absolute number and difference of diseases in vaccinated and non-vaccinated have become smaller and smaller. Nevertheless the decision was made to continue the BCG-vaccination of new-borns and pupils of 16 years in order to avoid also the last few cases of TB in children. The used BCG-vaccine produced in Jena/DDR has proved its immunogenic effect and caused very few complications. Till 1977 among nearly 10 millions of vaccinations only 68, mostly slight complications were registered.
