[Reconstruction of a suicide by a homemade firearm].

A 34 years old man shot himself by a selfmade muzzle-loader. He pluged one end of a waterpipe, used a cylindrical lead shot (Cal. 1.2 cm, length 2.15 cm, mass 22.7 g), special black powder (about 4 g, from fire-crackers; powder with an admixture of aluminium) and kindled the weapon in front of his chest by a slowmatch. He died immediately by retained missile of chest. The weapon flew away like a rocket. Unused projectils and powder (found in the flat) and the uninjured pipe allowed to copy the event. Velocity and energy of shot and weapon were determined, also the recoil of the pipe and the highest force of a hand to hold it fast. Experimental investigations and calculations correspondet well to the findings af the case.

[Unusual injuries caused by blows with a sash saw].

A 62-year old man was found killed by multiple blows against the face and head; near the victim a hammer with broken grip, a bended saw (weight 142 g), and in the possession of the doer two hatchets. Some straigt, parallel, horizontal wounds in the face with smooth lips and straigt incisions of the maxilla first were interpreted as violations by hatchet. The culprit confessed attacks by hammer and saw, but not by hatchet. Experimental blows with a saw like the used on the leg of a corpse showed an unexpected result: it was possible to produce wounds of the soft-tissues and the bone similar to those by hatchets.

[Internal laryngeal hematoma. A contribution to death following blow to the neck].

An 86-year old woman suffered blows with a forearm in a cast against the face and the neck. She was found dead some days later in a sitting position with heap of vomit beneath the corps. Autopsy showed extended haematoma and excoriations of the left side of the face and the neck. The mandibula and the left zygomatic arc were broken, just as the greater horns of the hyoid and the left upper and lower horne of thyroid cartilage. The main finding was a massive haematoma of the inner soft tissues of the larynx with a severe stenosis of the lumen. The haematoma was demonstrated by frontal section of the larynx, an unusual method in routine examination. Since this section was used in the autopsy especially of persons that died by strangulation, little bleedings in the false and true vocal cords were found in some cases.

[Value of laryngeal injuries as evidence].

Report of two cases: Violations at soft parts of the neck and at larynx pointed to an attack against the throat by strange hand, but local vital reactions showed that the attack had been survived. A 54-year old woman had little excoriations in the skin of the neck, the right great horn of hyoid bone and the left upper process of thyroid cartilage were broken, the fractures were bloodshot. No petechiae in skin and conjunctivitis. Death occurred from a suicidal poisoning of soporifics. The attack against the throat (throttling by hand, conceded by the culprit) had been survived. That was recognizable on a clear cell-reaction in the bleedings within the muscles of the neck. A 87-year old man was found in his rummaged home. Violations of the skin in the face pointed to attacks against mouth and throat; additional maltreatment by gagging and fettering (in the meantime untied) could be supposed. -- Histological examination showed advanced cell-reaction in the wounds, partially even intracellular iron pigment; there was a superposition of old and recent injuries, but even the recent had been survived many hours. The situation of finding the corpse, bleedings inside the iliac muscles, little hemorrhages in the mucosa of the stomach and acetone in blood and urine pointed to a death lately from cold. But complete clearing-up of the case was not yet possible.
