[Cytologic diagnosis of malignant melanomas of the female genital tract (author's transl)].

From 1969-1978 3 primary malignant melanomas of the vulva and 2 metastatic melanomas of the cervix were detected among 148,000 gynaecological cytosmears. Two melanomas of the vulva were diagnosed primarily by cytology because melanin was found. In the metastatic melanomas the primary site was known in one case. In the other case the primary malignancy of the skin was detected when the cytosmear from the cervix was diagnostic of matastatic melanoma. The literature and the personal experience on the possibilities of the cytological diagnosis of melanomas are discussed.

Model of the supine human body and its reactions to external forces.

Mechanical impedance and vibration transmissibility measurements were conducted on supine humans using sinusoidal vibrations. The frequencies tested were 1-20 Hz with a constant acceleration amplitude of 0.3 G. The tests were repeated with 4.54 kg pure mass placed on each segment. Both results were used to calculate a multi-degree-of-freedom lumped parameter model. The nonlinear reactions of the body are revealed by comparing the model parameters under "no load" and "load" conditions. When the results are compared with impedance measurements conducted under sustained acceleration, it becomes obvious that the thorax, due to its anatomical design, reacts differently from the remaining body parts.

Nonlinear behavior of sitting humans under increasing gravity.

To determine the nonlinear properties of the upright sitting human body, driving-point impedance as well as the transmissibility from seat to head were determined under increased gravity on a centrifuge. Under this condition a shift of resonances to higher frequencies was observed. At the same time the transmissibility increased distinctly. To explain this behaviour with a model, a nonlinear multi-degree-of freedom model of the upright sitting body was calculated. It elements represent identifiable body parts. Protective measures for normal gravity conditions, as well as for sustained acceleration, were derived.

[Bilateral carcinoma of the breast after radiotherapy and chemotherapy for Hodgkin's disease (author's transl)].

A 34-year-old patient had radiotherapy and chemotherapy for Hodgkin's disease of the nodular sclerosing type 2 A thirteen years prior to the treatment of a right cancer of the breast in the stage M0 N1 T3. Seven months later the patient had a left cancer of the breast in the stage M0 N0 T4. The literature is reviewed and the possibility of occurrance of secondary carcinoma following treatment of Hodgkin's disease is discussed.

Percent distribution of T-and B-lymphoid cells in spleen and lymph nodes of Moloney virus infected mice.

Malignant lymphomas were induced in BALB/cAnN mice by infection with Moloney virus (MLS-6). During the latent period of lymphoma development T- and B-cell populations were quantitated in spleen and lymph nodes using fluorescein-labelled monospecific antisera. A progressive decrease in percent T- and B-cells was observed in these organs starting eight weeks post virus infection. It apparently precedes slightly the earliest significant pathologic lesions represented primarily by thymic atrophy. Malignant lymphomas which were diagnostic from the 12th week after virus inoculation are composed of immature lymphoid cells which were not shown to contain T-cell markers nor immunoglobulin receptors. It is questioned whether the shift in cell population in lymphoreticular tissues during the latent period of lymphoma development may correlate with functional disturbances of these tissues that may be virus-induced.
