Evaluation of sepsis screen for diagnosis of neonatal septicemia.

Fifty clinically suspected cases of neonatal septicemia were studied for evaluating the role of sepsis screen. Sensitivity and specificity of C-reactive protein test, micro-ESR, gastric aspirate cytology for polymorphs and toxic granules in neutrophils were studied singly and in combinations of two and three tests. Positive blood culture was obtained in only 20% cases, thereby underlying the need for a sepsis screen in the diagnosis of neonatal septicemia, especially in areas where adequate micro-biological facilities are lacking.

Rhinosporidiosis in India: a case report and review of literature.

A 21-year-old male from Kerala, south India, who had been living in Chandigarh for the last 4 years presented with a nasal polyp in the left nasal cavity. On histopathological examination, it was found to be due to rhinosporidiosis. This disease is not uncommon in south India, but few case reports have been documented from north India. This paper presents a case report of rhinosporidiosis from the Government Medical College and Hospital, Chandigarh, and a review of literature of the disease.

Fibroma of the lacrimal sac.

A case of fibroma arising from the anterolateral wall of a healthy lacrimal sac on the left side in a 22-year-old male is reported. There was no epiphora. The tumor presented as a painless, nonreducible swelling in the lacrimal sac region. It was excised off leaving a patent sac. The diagnosis could be established only on histopathologic examination. Postoperative recovery was uneventful and there was no postoperative epiphora.
