[Immunologic response of the anterior chamber in the light of observation of the presence of bee sting].

The authors present a case of a bee sting sticking for 3 days in the anterior chamber. It did not provoke any inflammatory changes except of a sector hyperemia of the iris and aqueous flare. After a surgical removal of the sting these symptoms receded. The lack of reaction to the bee poison is considered in the light of a humoral reaction and of the phenomenon of Anterior Chamber Associated Immune Deviation (ACAID) the essence of which is based on the suppression of the late type of sensitivity.

[Radial keratotomy and the factors determining its effectiveness].

The authors present a short history of the development of the idea and technique of the radial keratotomy. They discuss the individual factors as well topical (corneal curvature, intraocular pressure) as general (age, sex) and also surgical parameters influencing the final effect of operation and its stability. Presented are: the indications and contraindications for the procedure, the preoperative approach, surgical technique and the postoperative treatment.

[Failures, complications and side effects of radial keratotomy].

The authors present the 10-years results of radial keratotomy in the light of the world literature. The refractive and functional efficacy of this procedure as well as intraoperative and postoperative complications are discussed. The problem of the influence of the radial keratotomy on the endothelium is presented in the light of clinical and experimental investigations. The daily fluctuation of the refraction has been discussed in the aspect of diurnal variations of the intraocular pressure and the changes in corneal thickness resulting from its hydratation. The problem of binocular vision in conditions of postoperative anisometropia is also presented.

[Etiopathogenetic problems in primary open-angle glaucoma].

The authoress discusses the contemporary opinions on the genetically conditioned predisposition to primary open angle glaucoma, histopathological changes in the structures responsible for the increase of the resistance of the outflow and on the mechanism of their formation. The pathogenesis of glaucomatous neuropathy is considered in the view of the damage caused by a direct compression of the nervous fibres and their chronic ischaemia. Both these mechanisms have an influence on the transport of axoplasma, the obstruction of which leads to atrophic changes of the nervous fibres and of the ganglion cells of the retina. The place of the primary lesion of these elements is considered.

[Congenital genetically determined retinal detachment].

The authors discuss the typical signs and symptoms of congenital retinoschisis: splitting of the retinal layers in the macular and equatorial regions and vitreous changes. They describe the evolution of these changes and their complications.

[Congenital retinal detachment with predominant macular changes].

The authors call attention to the existence of incomplete forms of retinoschisis and some forms with predominant macular changes which may erroneously be treated as Stargard's disease. A correct diagnosis is essential because of the necessity of a systematic control of the fundus periphery. Discussed are the possibilities of prevention and treatment of complications such as haemorrhages and retinal detachment.

[Diagnostic difficulties in cases of opticochiasmatic arachnoiditis].

Clinical signs and the methods of radiological diagnosis in optochiasmatic arachnoiditis are discussed. Difficulties in the interpretation of results of examinations may stem from the physiological fluctuations of the size and the form of the region and the situation of the chiasma and also from an insufficient precision of orientation of the tomographical cross-section. In spite of coordination of the angiography of carotis artery, of pneumocysternoencephalography and computer tomography one may receive faulty negative results. Presentation by means of a magnetic resonance seems to open quite new perspectives.
