[Emergency colon diagnosis by water-soluble contrast enemas (author's transl)].

When surgery of the colon must be carried out for special indications and emergencies, it is not possible to make diagnosis with Ba SO4 contrast mediums. In these cases, reasonable success can be expected with substitution of three-iodized water-soluble contrast enemas. Through perforations and discharge from the colon they are absorbed into the free peritoneal cavity and enable diagnoses which are nearly comparable in quality to those done with Ba SO4 contrast mediums. In double contrast radiography according to the Malmö technique recognition of surface detail can be considered sufficient. Advantages and disadvantages as well as indications are listed in table form. Examples are documented to complete the chapter on results.

Adult

[Experimental microsurgery in rats (author's transl)].

Experimental microsurgical techniques using a magnifying glass and surgical microscope enable nearly all abdominal operations and organ transplantations to be performed in rats. Vascular and prosthetic segment implantations, portocaval anastomoses, heterotopic heart-, kidney-, spleen-, pancreas-, and liver transplantations some with superselective organangiography, are excellently demonstrated. Continuing research in microsurgery has considerably expanded experimental surgery and given new impulse to clinical surgery.

Abdomen

[Bone and joint changes due to compressed air in divers and Caisson workers (author's transl)].

The radiological and morphological changes of Caisson disease in the skeleton are well known. The findings of interest to radiologists are described. Because of its position, its was possible to review a large number of divers in Kiel; these have been under observation for years, and even decades. The development, manifestation and course of chronic skeletal changes due to compressed air are described to compressed air are described and, according to severity, are classified into types 1 to 4. Late changes are discussed in detail, since these are of importance in relation to compensation.

Bone Diseases

[Treatment possibilities of laryngeal cancer. Surgery--radiotherapy--chemotherapy].

Treatment's possibilities of the carcinoma of larynx are presented and we especially attract notice to require a right distribution of stages in conformity with the prescriptions from the U.I.C.C. Operation's methods and radiotherapeutic possibilities are indicated. Following the author's views, it would be made primary irradiations in the stages T1 and T2, while only after the operation it would be necessary to use a radiotherapy in the stages T3 and T4. The possibility of a preoperative irradiation in the advanced stage is taken up. The problem of the reappared tumor is discussed and it is made a transition to the possibilities of the chemotherapy. The possibilities of a fractionated synchronisation of the intraarterial therapy of the tumor and a possible polychemotherapy are discussed.
