Historical review about puerperal infections in the last 100 years on the background of publications in the Zentralblatt für Gynäkologie. The time was divided in three parts: The time after Semmelweis (1878 to 1920), the first time of chemotherapy (1920 to 1940) and the antibiotic epoche (after 1940).
In breech presentation near term the prophylactic external cephalic version using tocolytic drugs represents a modern practice. This method needs a critical valuation. Report about 23 external versions with assistance of tocolytic drugs and insufflation anesthesia. In 17 cases the version was successful. In addition to the 3 unsuccessful attempts 3 complications appeared: twice a partial ablatio placentae and once a prolapse of the arm and umbilical cord on intact amniotic sac.

Results of DHAS-tests are calculated according to 4 methods (recovery of injected DHAS as total oestrogens measured in 24 hour urine specimens; changes of oestrogen excretion peaks measured in two hour intervals; recovery of injected DHAS as total oestrogens measured in 2 hour urine specimens; classification according to a scheme of oestrogen excretion pattern measured in two hour intervals). The results are critically compared with the general development of pregnancy and with the condition of the newborn. The discrepancies observed show that the DHAS-test is of little practical value.
