[The diagnostic value of computer-assisted psychometric procedures].

Some test procedures of the computer assisted instrumentation system COMBITEST 2 were examined in order to evaluate the strength of diagnostical differentiation. For this purpose tests for evaluating the concentration capacity and the psychomotor performance, especially tapping, were used in a sample of 92 neurological patients (60 patients with and 32 without cerebral impairment). It became evident, that performance differentiations between patients with cerebral impairment and others are predominantly characterized by speed parameters (reaction time, duration of test), scarcely by parameters of accuracy (number of errors). Configuration - frequency - analyses emphasize deceleration of psychic/psychomotoric speed as diagnostic indicator in cerebral impaired patients: the best pattern was the "configuration" of reduced speed in concentration test and in tapping.

[Psychometric detection of depressive mood conditions].

An investigation into the diagnostic value of psychometric methods for the diagnosis of depressive states involved five psychometric questionnaires, one concentration test procedure, and one problem-solving approach to register cognitive processes. The data obtained for 80 depressive patients of varied aetiology were compared with those of sample of 80 neurotics without depressive aberration. Even univariate comparisons revealed statistically significant differences between the two samples. Multivariate methods (factor analysis, discriminative analysis) yielded more differentiated information. The "Scale for depression depth measurements" was found to be of particular diagnostic relevance; it was standardized for the time being.

[Evaluation of psychological stress before general anesthesia].

Pre-operative fear is not only a psychologically stressing phenomenon for the patient, but also a considerable risk factor due to its somatical correlative. In a study, 150 patients who were to undergo planned surgery under general anaesthesia were questioned about their fears and worries concerning the anaesthetic. Self-rating scales and rating scales by doctors and a complaints analysis curve were used in addition to an interview system on illnesses and specific previous experiences. 54% of the patients were, according to specific criteria, assessed as being anxious or very anxious (for example diffused anxiety, premature weakening of the anaesthetic effect, worry about not waking up out of the anaesthetic). Several factors which could have an anxiety-lessening or increasing effect and which are of importance for the psychological preparation for an operation were deduced from the investigation.

[Configuration-frequency-analytical assessment of psychometric procedures in brain damage diagnosis].

In a study of 462 neurological patients, the psychodiagnostic procedures of a tachistoscopic examination of the figure-ground differentiation, test dz and Bourdon-Wiersma test were assessed configuration-frequency-analytically. It was found that the procedure configuration of conspicuous tachistoscopie findings with a distinct slowing-down in the Bourdon-Wiersma test as well as reduced values in the test d2 (GZ--F) among all examined configuration indicate most clearly a cerebro-organic impairment.

Brain Damage, Chronic↗

[Experience with a list of clinical symptoms].

This is a report of the experience with a list of complaints used to examine a sample of patients (n = 71) prior and subsequent to treatment on an inpatient basis. A reduction of symptoms was observed especially in the area of vegatative and psychic symptoms of anxiety. A detailed factor analysis yielded four interpretable factors.

[Examinations with the modified VNPI].

The revised design of a psychometric procedure (VNPI) is described. Additional factors were extracted by intercorrelations and factor analysis: increased perseveration, inhibited contact, defective flexibility, instability of moods. They provide information, additionally to the evaluation of the factors of vegetative lability, neuroticism, and introversion. A random test in 360 persons from a screening series is used for the presentation of the relations between VNPI values and findings of social and internal medicine. The possibilities of individual diagnosis of the procedure are demonstrated by VNPI profiles of patients.

[On the problems of psychophysiological data determination].

Together with the description of difficulties of registration specific individual, stimulus, and motivation reactions are dealt with. Possibilities are shown of changes of the signalto-noise ratio in the example of a superimposition related to an event. Particularly the problems of the design of psychological complementary diagnostics for the recognition of habitual factors and factor related to specific reactions to trauma are discussed.
