The influence of psychotropic drugs on aldole, mitochondrial malic dehydrogenase and Mg++na+K+ adenosine triphosphatase.

1. The experiment investigated the effects of psychotropic drugs on enzymes in vitro.2. Chlorpromazine inhibits mitochondrial malate dehydrogenase in concentrations of 1.4x10(-4)M and above. No effect was observed below this concentration.3. A sharp inflection in the [unk]/drug plot was also seen with chlorpromazine (1.4 x 10(-4)M), trifluoperazine (1 x 10(-5)M), prochlorperazine (1 x 10(-4)M), and amylobarbitone (8 x 10(-3)M) acting on rat brain (Na(+)-K(+)-) Mg(++)-ATPase and with chlorpromazine (10(-4)M) and imipramine (3 x 10(-4)M) acting on aldolase.

Transfer anxiety in patients with myocardial infarction.

When patients are transferred from a coronary care unit to a general ward they often experience transfer anxiety. A structured pre-transfer teaching programme is suggested as a tool which may improve patient care.

RN to BS in nursing: historical review leads to articulation agreement.

Historically, registered nurses who have graduated from associate degree or diploma programs and who wish to obtain a baccalaureate degree in nursing have been required to pass challenge examinations to obtain credit for their previous nursing knowledge. A review of this university's policy regarding challenge examinations convinced faculty to establish a transition course and to actively pursue articulation agreements with local community colleges. Through these agreements, RN students would be granted 29 credits and bypass the junior year. This article is written to encourage others to review their policies to facilitate educational mobility for the RN/BS student.

Referring physician database: the cornerstone of a successful marketing program.

In the language of authors Thomas Dunlap and Hedy Rogers, increased competition, "turf wars" and shifting demographics have made developing a keen competitive edge vital to growing and maintaining group practice income. They present the referring physician database as one method for satisfying the needs of a group's customer base.

Making sense of ... cardiac catheterisation.

Cardiac catheter studies (CCS) are an invasive diagnostic test for heart disease. It involves passing one of various cardiac catheters via a main artery into the heart under local anaesthetic. The catheter can then be used to inject radio-opaque fluid into the patient's coronary arteries and heart chambers for serial X-rays or video recording. Samples of blood or tissue can also be obtained and pressures across heart valves can be recorded. This paper describes the procedure and the nurse's role.
