[Experience with evicrol splints after eighteen months of use (author's transl)].

The authors, after discussing the general importance of the use of splints in parodontological therapy, give a detailed description of the manufacture of composite splints. The experience and results obtained after eighteen months of use of fifteen splints are discussed and compared with data reported in the international literature.

[Tooth mobility in several age groups with reference to various periodontal diagnostic aspects].

The present study deals with a study of the tooth mobility, the pocket depth and the bone destruction in 616 periodontally healthy subjects. It was found that the mobility of the upper lateral incisor is inferior to that of the central one. Furthermore, relations of age to tooth mobility and bone destruction were established, whereas no relationship between age and pocket depth was evident.

[Value and significance of tooth mobility measurements].

1. The measurement of tooth mobility by manual and instrumental techniques is necessary for establishing a diagnosis, since it is of considerable importance for decisions in the framework of prophylaxis and therapy. 2. The significance of the measurement of tooth mobility depends upon the respective problem and the sensitivity of the measuring technique used. 3. The specifications for the precision of the measuring technique will be determined by the specific objective of the examination. 4. The instrumental measuring techniques are reproducible and, therefore, imperative in scientific studies.

[The effect of bite lowering after extractions on the mobility of front teeth].

The author, after pointing out the importance of supporting zones and height of bite to normal occlusion, discusses the possible consequences to front teeth of bite lowering subsequent to extractions. It is possible to show that there is a causal relationship between extractions of molars and loosening of front teeth. For early occlusal contacts, grinding-in treatment is recommended where the supporting structure is still intact and prosthetic treatment, after loss of the supporting structure.

[Correlations between chronic liver diseases and periodontal diseases with special reference to animal experiments].

The purpose of the present paper was to investigate possible relationships between chronic liver diseases and marginal periodontal diseases, using clinical and radiographic methods as well as animal experiments. The periodontal conditions of 100 patients with histologically confirmed chronic hepatopathies were compared with those in a control group of same size. The results of these studies testify unequivocally to unfavourable conditions in the group of hepatopaths. This finding is corroborated and complemented by subsequent animal experiments. The difference in the extent and intensity of the periodontal alterations between a group of Wistar rats with experimentally induced hepatopathies and a control group was statistically significant. These results permit the conclusion that an aetiologic relation between chronic hepatopathies and marginal periodontal diseases may be assumed.
