[Perioperative antibiotic prophylaxis in allo-arthroplasty].

Since 1984 the perioperative prophylaxis was carried out using the antibiotics Oxacillin or Halospor in artificial joint replacement of the hip. We started with 1 g Oxacillin at the very beginning of the anaesthesie. Further 0.5 g Oxacillin were administered 2 and 6 hours later. 964 hip joints operated between 1982-1988 were followed up. We observed a marked decrease of the rate of infection from 7.2% to 1.0% after the introduction of the perioperative prophylaxis.

[Studies of hip dislocation in twins].

An arbitrary series of twins is used to demonstrate that there is no increased morbidity from congenital dislocated hip joint in twins. A physiologic delay in ossification of the cartilaginously preformed parts of articulations is caught up during the first year of life. In addition, connection with pregnancy and birth is discussed and r recommendations for diagnosis and therapy using sonography are given.

[Preparation of a cytostatic-containing bone cement].

Local application of cytostatic during therapy of tumors in bones is desirable. In these cases the drugs had to be incorporated in bone glue. Liberation, stability and side-effects have been estimated using methotrexate and doxorubicin (Adriblastin) in vitro. The liberation were determined in combination with auxiliary substances and even solidity of the bone glue was maintained.

[Course and differential diagnosis of McCune-Albright syndrome].

The McCune-Albright syndrome consists of a combination of fibrous dysplasia of bone and endocrine lesions with abnormalities of pigmentation. The condition is rare and may be missed, as happened in our case. The case showed extreme skeletal deformities, menarche at one year and peculiar histological appearances.
