Oxidative cross-coupling of beta,beta-difluoroenol silyl ethers with nucleophiles: a dipole-inversion method to difluoroketones.

Oxidative cross-coupling of alpha-aryl-beta,beta-difluoroenol silyl ethers with heteroaromatics in the presence of Cu(OTf)(2) in wet acetonitrile proceeds smoothly, affording heteroaryldifluoromethyl aryl ketones in 61-88% yields. Alcohols also react as nucleophiles under the same conditions to provide alkoxydifluoromethyl aryl ketones in 73-80% yields. [reaction: see text]

Catalytic route to the synthesis of optically active beta,beta-difluoroglutamic acid and beta,beta-difluoroproline derivatives.

Beta,beta-difluorinated amino acid derivatives were synthesized via Mg(0)-promoted defluorination of alpha-trifluoromethyl iminoester. Bromination of the difluoroenamine afforded the bromodifluoromethyl iminoester in good yield. Pd-catalyzed asymmetric hydrogenation of the bromodifluoromethyl iminoester and the subsequent transformations provided optically active beta,beta-difluoroglutamic acid and beta,beta-difluoroproline derivatives.

Unusual reactions of N-allylic difluoroenamines under thermal conditions.

N-Allylic difluoroenamines exhibited unusual behaviors under thermal conditions; N-allyl difluoroenamines in refluxing xylene afforded not only aza-Claisen rearrangement products, but also 2-azabicyclo[2.1.1]hexanes, whose formation could be explained via intramolecular [2+2]-cycloaddition, whilst N-prenyl difluoroenamine underwent an ene reaction to give the pyrrolidine as a sole product.

Mg-promoted double silylation of trifluoroacetimidoyl chlorides. A new entry to the fluorinated dianion equivalents.

[reaction: see text] A Mg(0)/Me(3)SiCl system was found to be effective for the preparation of a novel fluorinated dianion equivalent. A one-pot reaction sequence involving reductive C-F and C-Cl bond cleavage reactions of trifluoroacetimidoyl chlorides afforded bis-silylated difluoroenamines. Subsequent carbon-carbon bond-forming reactions of the bis(silyl)enamines with two kinds of electrophiles gave a variety of difluorinated imines.

Singlet diradicals: from transition states to crystalline compounds.

Singlet diradicals are usually not energy minima. As observed by femtosecond spectroscopy, they readily couple to form final sigma bonds. Substituent effects allow lifetimes to increase into the microsecond range. Taking advantage of the properties of hetero-elements, a diradical has been prepared that is indefinitely stable at room temperature. The availability of diradicals that can be handled under standard laboratory conditions will lead to further insight into their chemical and physical properties, raising the likelihood of practical applications, especially in the field of molecular materials such as electrical conductors and ferromagnets.
