Precision UV-B irradiation for flavonoid biofortification in indoor-cultivated Morus nigra: Integrated multi-omics and molecular docking insights.

Precision application of UV irradiation represents an effective strategy for improving the quality of functional food crops under controlled environmental conditions. Morus nigra serves as a significant functional food resource in Xinjiang, with its leaves being rich in diverse bioactive compounds with nutritional and health-promoting properties. In this study, a low-dose UV-B treatment regimen was developed to enhance flavonoids in indoor-cultivated M. nigra without growth penalty. Multi-omics revealed a hormone shift (suppressed auxin vs. activated JA signaling). This triggered transcriptional reprogramming of PAL/4CL and CHS/CYP75B1, redirecting carbon flux towards flavonoid biosynthesis. Transient overexpression of MYB, NAC, and TIFY variants validated this regulatory network. The UV-B-induced NAC upregulated key genes and flavonoids, while different TIFY members showed diverse regulatory effects. Molecular docking predicted that the induced flavonoids had hypoglycemic, antioxidant, and anti-browning potential. This study indicates targeted UV-B as a green biofortification strategy for high-value crops in controlled environments.

Large-scale synthesis of single crystal silver nanowires by a sodium diphenylamine sulfonate reduction process.

Silver nanowires with high aspect ratios of up to more than 60 were synthesized on a large scale by the redox reaction between silver nitrate and sodium diphenylamine sulfonate at room temperature and in the absence of surfactant and hard-template and seed. When the molar ratio of reductant sodium diphenylamine sulfonate and silver nitrate < or =1, most products were all the nanowires. When the molar ratio increases to 2:1, silver nanowires and nanobelts were concomitantly formed. The redox product N, N'-diphenylbenzidinedisulfonate and sodium diphenylamine sulfonate all play an important role in the formation of silver nanostructures. The structure, morphology, and composition of the silver nanowires were characterized by the X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray energy dispersive microanalysis (EDX), and UV-Vis spectroscopy respectively. High-resolution transmission microscopy (HRTEM) and selected area electron diffraction (SAED) reveal the single-crystal nature of the silver nanowires.

[Responses of rice growth and development to free-air CO2 enrichment (FACE): A research review].

The ongoing increasing of atmospheric CO2 has become a hot topic in the last two decades due to its profound impact on crop growth and development. Oryza sativa L. (rice) is one of the most important crops in the world and the first food in China. This paper reviewed the results based on chamber-based experiments, mainly focused on the effects of free-air carbon dioxide enrichment (FACE) on the photosynthesis, water relationship, growth stage, leaf and root growth, dry matter production and distribution, chemical composition, and grain yield and quality of rice crop. The further research directions in this field were discussed.

[Effects of free-air CO2 enrichment (FACE) on phosphorus nutrition of Oryza sativa at its different growth stages].

Using free-air CO2 enrichment (FACE) platform and under different nitrogen supply level, this paper studied the phosphorus nutrition of Oryza sativa at its different growth stages. The CO2 concentration of FACE platform was 200 micromol.mol(-1) more than that in ambient air, and the nitrogen supply levels were 150 kg.hm(-2), 250 kg.hm(-2) and 280 kg.hm(-2). The results showed that during rice growth period, FACE significantly increased the phosphorus content of rice plant and its phosphorus uptake by 3.9%-20.6% and 28.9%-71.4%, respectively. Before heading, FACE had little effect on the phosphorous accumulation in leaf or stake, but after heading, made the proportion of phosphorus accumulation in reproductive organ decreased by 9.8%-26.3% and that in vegetative organ increased by 2.2%-23.9% at 0.01 or 0.05 significant level. Under FACE treatment, the phosphorus use efficiency for biomass production (PUEp) at different growth stages, the phosphorus use efficiency for grain output (PUEg), and the phosphorus harvest index (PHI) were decreased by 3.7%-16.6%, 6.5% -15.5%, 5.4%-9.0%, respectively. Nitrogen supply level and its interaction with FACE had less effect on the phosphorus-nutrition of rice at its different growth stages.
