[Oxygen barotherapy in the combined treatment of patients with chronic ischemic disease].

As many as 20 patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) were examined for the efficacy of oxygen pressure chamber therapy (OPCT) combined with drugs. Optimal modes of OPCT were elaborated. The treatment consisted of 10-15 daily sessions with the partial oxygen pressure 0.25 MPa and the exposition 50-60 minutes. The treatment with compressed oxygen arrested or decreased heart pain, improved sleep. OPCT ameliorated the ECG readings, raised exercise tolerance, and made lipid metabolism return to normal. Satisfactory long-term results have also been obtained.

[Effects of hyperbaric oxygenation on tumor growth].

The study failed to show a stimulating effect of hyperbaric oxygen on growth and metastatic spreading of sarcoma 37 transplanted subcutaneously or intravenously to female SHR mice, melanoma B16 intramuscularly transplanted to female C57/Bl mice and methylcholanthrene-induced tumors in female albino noninbred rats. An insignificant inhibitory effect of hyperbaric oxygen on transplantable tumor growth and development of inducible ones in experimental animals was observed.

[Treatment of acute pancreatitis patients with functional liver failure].

Methods of extracorporal detoxication hemo- and lymphosorption, intraportal injection of drugs and oxygenated solutions as well as ultraviolet irradiation of auto-blood are included in the routine scheme of treatment of patients with acute pancreatitis. The treatment concerned was used in 77 patients with acute pancreatitis and advanced hepatic insufficiency and resulted in arresting the latter in 43 of the patients. To prevent the development of acute hepatic insufficiency proved to be possible in 20 patients with a destructive form of acute pancreatitis. The intraportal injection of oxygenated solutions against the background of acute experimental pancreatitis contributed to prevention of hypoxia of the liver.

Acute Disease

[Effectiveness of oxygen barotherapy in the initial forms of cerebral vascular diseases].

Results of evaluating the efficacy of hyperbaric oxygenation therapy in 104 patients with cerebrovascular diseases are presented. Of these patients, 32 had chronic cerebrovascular insufficiency, and 72 showed transient disturbances of the cerebral circulation. A good effect was noted in 74, a satisfactory in 22, and a doubtful in 8 patients. From clinical, electrophysiological, psychophysiological, biochemical, and ophthalmoscopic examinations it is concluded that hyperbaric oxygenation therapy is quite efficacious when used as part of complex therapy and as a means of prompt therapy of acute cerebrovascular crises. 3- to 5-year observations of patients who repeatedly given the hyperbaric oxygenation therapy at 6-month intervals allowed recommending it as a means for preventing cerebral strokes.

[Changes in certain of the body's biochemical indices during decompressive gas formation of different intensities].

In cats a short-lasting biochemical effect of the compressed air caused no changes in concentration of sodium, potassium or 17-ketosteroids in blood and urine. Through production of gas bubbles, concentration of potassium and sodium ions in plasma is reduced while their excretion increases. Disturbance of sodium and potassium metabolism in the human body as well as activity of suprarenal cortex depend on intensity of decompressive gas production.
