Prospective study with Tinset tablet.

Fifty-seven patients suffering from seasonal rhinitis have been treated with oxatomide (Tinset) tablets. In the well-responding cases the drug was prescribed for prophylactic purpose to prevent the expectable rhinitis attacks in later seasons. In the first season the preventive action of the drug was registered in a relatively high rate of the patients, but this action was significantly less marked in the second period. According to the opinion of the author oxatomide is a drug of high value both for therapeutic and preventive purposes. Nevertheless, the sedative action of the drug has to be taken into consideration in the course of therapy.

Observations with tinset tablet in allergic respiratory tract diseases.

The effect of Tinset tablet (30 mg oxatomide) has been examined in 68 patients suffering from allergic diseases of the upper respiratory tract or from allergic diseases accidentally accompanying different pulmonary diseases. In general the daily doses were 2 x 1 tab., occasionally 2 x 2 tab., a number of 12-16-year old patients received only 1 tab. daily. On the basis of the clinical symptoms, spirometric examinations, and global evaluation it has been concluded that the drug may be used most successfully in seasonal rhinitis, allergodermatosis, and allergic conjunctivitis cases and in extrinsic allergic asthma of children. The therapeutic effectiveness of the drug is insignificant in perennial rhinitis and adult extrinsic asthma cases. The somnolence-inducing effect of the drug is notable (it developed in 50% of the patients). In 23 of the 68 patients weight-gain, in 3 cases each gastric complaint or dryness of mouth developed.

The prognostic significance of obstructive bronchitis in bronchial cancer.

The correlation between chronic bronchitis and bronchial cancer was studied. The significance of common--or supposedly common--etiological factors, the risk of bronchial cancer among patients with obstructive bronchitis, the operability and survival rates of obstructive bronchitic patients with bronchial cancer were studied and compared to the data of patients with bronchial cancer but without obstructive bronchitis. The distribution of smokers was the same among male patients with bronchial cancer or obstructive bronchitis. Among male patients of the same age and smoking habits, suffering from obstructive bronchitis, the relative incidence rate of bronchial cancer was 5 times higher in group of the 50-60-year-old and 11 times higher in the age group above 60 than in the groups of patients with dyscrinia only. Accordingly, unfavourable prognostical significance for bronchial cancer is attributed to obstructive bronchitis. The authors advocates to screen patients with bronchitis, to start their out-patient care in an early stage, to register theirs spirometric data, and to supervise male patients with obstructive bronchitis radiologically.

[BCG vaccination and/or tuberculin testing for the elimination of tuberculosis (author's transl)].

In an epidemiological an clinical pilote study the authors have done a tuberculin testing survey in combination with the mass X-ray examinations in 2553 adults in the village Dabas with 3885 inhabitants. The percentage of tuberculin positive persons of the various age groups refers to a still high infection prevalence of the adults. However, among the persons under 30 and older than 60 years a high percentage of tuberculin negative ones was found (27-38%). By reason of their investigations the increasing significance was emphasized. The authors recommend, to revise once more the practice of BCG vaccination of the persons under 30 years, a more intensive dispensaric care of the adolescent living in an infectious environment, in collectives and of all the old tuberculin-negative persons.
