[The criteria for the diagnosis of chronic overheating in miners in deep coal mines].

The author analyzes a complex of informative signs and symptoms characterizing the main forms of disorders in chronic overheating: vegeto-vascular dysfunction, astheno-neurotic syndrome, reduced heat resistance, seizure. An integral criterion of the presence of chronic overheating in miners with a large length of work in conditions of heat is the total threshold of diagnostic coefficients (-9.8 units) and its absence (+12.5 units). Precision of the method -80%.

[Incidence of cardiovascular diseases in the workers of deep coal mines].

Examined were 1345 miners working in deep coal mines (temperature 27 degrees C and higher) and non-deep mines (temperature not exceeding 26 degrees C). It was found that increased temperature against the background of other noxious factors of the mine environment and strenuous physical work further the development of diseases of the cardio-vascular system (hypertensive disease, vegetovascular dystonia, ischemic heart disease).

[A method for determining human thermal resistance].

The authors developed and approved a method of determination of the thermal stability of man. To realize this method it is not necessary to apply heat to the body and special apparatus. The method is based on determination of deflection of the peripheral resistance in the greater circulation from the standard value and time of thermal hemolysis of erythrocytes.

[Signs of chronic overheating in miners of deep coal mines].

Both miners exposed to high temperature and excess heat and miners working under permissible temperature conditions (a control group) had similar nonspecific signs, i. e., complaints of heartache and headache, erethism, flaccidity, hydrosis, degradation of appetite and sleep, vertigo, dimness, the sense of air shortage, palpitation in rest, uncertain gait, muscle spasm. There were also presented the following objective data: tremor of close eyelids, asymmetry of tendon reflex, convergence weakness, emotional lability, changes in orthostatic test results, higher Kerdau index, instability of sensitizing Romberg's test. The above signs were more pronounced in miners exposed to high temperature, thus it was possible to regard them as indicators of miners' chronic overheating.

[Clinical symptoms of chronic hyperthermia in miners of deep coal mines].

Results are discussed of investigations with the purpose of analysing the clinical manifestations of long-term effects of the thermal factor on the body of miners of deep coal-mines aimed at the diagnosis of chronic hyperthermia. It shown that miners working in hyperthermia conditions showed prevalence of vegetovascular and astheno-neurotic syndrome.

[The structure of the morbidity and disability among miners who worked in the cleanup of the aftereffects of the accident at the Chernobyl Atomic Electric Power Station].

The authors analyzed morbidity and invalidity in miners engaged in liquidation of Chernobyl disaster sequels depending on the duration of stay in increased radiation background, radiation dose, length of work in the mines. Among the nosological entities prevailed vegeto-vascular dystonia, thyroid and gastrointestinal pathology.
