[Morphological and cytochemical features of the gingival mucosal epithelium in women during different phases of the menstrual cycle].

Morphological analysis of smears of the gingival epithelium by computer-aided morphometry was carried out in women during the secretory and proliferation phases of the menstrual cycle. During the secretory phase the cell ratio was characterized by higher percentage of epitheliocytes in the terminal stages of differentiation. Size of the nuclei and cytoplasm of intermediate cells, concentration of total protein in them, number of the nucleolar organizer zones, and degree of bacterial contamination of epitheliocytes is higher during the secretory phase than during the proliferation phase.

[A comparative morphological description of the gingival and buccal epithelium in females in various phases of the menstrual cycle].

Computer morphometry was used to analyze morphologically and histochemically the smears of the gingival and buccal epithelium obtained from women at the secretion and proliferation phases of the menstrual cycle. A variety of reliably statistic differences conditioned by a menstrual-cycle phase was found to be typical of the gingival epithelium. A high percentage of epitheliocytes of differentiation terminal stages as well as signs of enhanced protein-synthesizing processes were typical of the cells ratio in the gingival epithelium at the secretion phase. The number of differences in the buccal epithelium conditioned by a menstrual cycle was by far less, which denotes a lesser dependence of this epithelium on hormones, whose concentration at the proliferation phase essentially differs from that observed at the secretion phase.

[Physical development and dental caries in schoolchildren].

The study has been undertaken to examine physical development and stomatologic status of 1177 schoolchildren aged 7-14 involving 811 Russian and Nanai children. Proceeding from the obtained results the analysis of basic indicators of physical development and stomatologic diseases in children is presented.

[The effect of a low-intensity helium-neon laser on succinate dehydrogenase activity in unmineralized periodontal and dental tissues].

Laser effects with energy density of 28.8, 86.4, 144 J/cm2 and 86.4 J/cm2 in combination with fluorine agents on succinate dehydrogenase (SDH) activity were studied in 264 noninbred white rats (5 groups). The animals were decapitated in 1, 6, 12, 24, 48, 72 h and 12 and 30 days. The findings evidence elevated SDH activity virtually in all periods tested. Laser exposure enhanced enzymic activity in all the animals.

[The effect of the light from a helium-neon laser on normal dental enamel solubility and in caries].

Effects of He-Ne laser radiation at a wavelength 0.63 micron for 90 sec on dental enamel mineral metabolism were studied from Ca, P levels and Ca/P ratio in 67 children aged 3 to 7. Ca and P solubility in surface enamel layers was found reduced after He-Ne laser irradiation in both healthy children and those with caries. Laser was found to normalize the oral fluid mineral composition.
