[Isoenzyme composition and some properties of pea lipoxygenase].

The isoenzyme composition and some properties of lipoxygenase isolated from the seeds and 10-day old sprouts of pea plant were studied. The enzyme activity assay, using gel- and ion-exchange chromatography, disc-electrophoresis in polyacrylamide gel, etc. revealed that the plant contains two lipoxygenase systems of unsaturated long-chain fatty acids oxidation. The existence of four lipoxygenase isoenzymes whose combination determines the type of lipoxygenase-catalyzed reactions of linoleic acid oxidation, has been confirmed.

[The effect of L-carnitine and acetyl-L-carnitine on blood serum lipid peroxidation in vitro].

In the action mode of carnitine derivatives, the leading role is played by lipid transport inside the cell. Bearing in mind the important role of lipid peroxidation in lipid metabolism in the body and broad-range indications for use of carnitine derivatives in medical practice, it was decided to investigate the influence of carnitine derivatives on lipid peroxidation (LPO) in vitro to have a better understanding of the action mode of these drugs, as carnitine, according to the reported data, may affect certain LPO parameters in vivo.

[Problems in the pharmacology of antioxidants].

The unsolved problems of antioxidant pharmacology are analyzed. There are presented the data on the pathological states the involvement in which of free radical processes has been proved and the possibility of using antioxidants for correction of such states in discussed. The main types of the preparations inhibiting free radical oxidation are described. The importance of the investigation of such parameters as the antioxidative and antiradical activity is emphasized. Great attention is concentrated on the clinicopharmacological aspects of the application of antioxidants, in particular, in gerontology. The importance of the further research of antioxidants is shown.

[Action of antioxidants on physical work capacity and lipid peroxidation in the body].

The effects of agents with the antioxidant action vitamin E and ubinone on physical working capacity and intensity of lipid peroxidation processes in the organisms were experimentally studied. It was shown that at course treatment both agents increase physical working capacity of experimental animals with a concurrent lowering of spontaneous serum chemiluminescence level and a decrease of blood content of malonic+ dialdehyde.

[The effect of the antioxidants elton and leveton on the physical work capacity of athletes].

Study of 44 athletes of various sport skill undergoing training for endurance showed the chemiluminescence method to be an important parameter indicating that a person is trained for physical exertion. The broad-spectrum adaptogenic agents elton and leveton reduced in in-vitro experiments the superweak luminescence of urine, which is evidence of their direct antioxidant effect. Twenty-day administration of elton and leveton reduced chemiluminescence and the level of malonic dialdehyde in the urine of highly skilled athletes and increased their physical working capacity tested by bicycle ergometry with gradually increasing physical loads.
