[The main directions of "restorative ophthalmology" in conditions of multi-purpose rehabilitation center].

The authors have developed the 4-level system for restoration of operator's professional vision basing on the principles of conception's project of health protection in Russian Federation. On the hole the complex system of sanitary measures includes the following directions: the wide use of self-prophylaxis and correction methods of visual disorders, the purposeful use of effective means of visual profile ("operative correction") directly in the operator's working place, as well as the conduction of complex stimulation of vision organ on the basis of specialized room ("long-term correction").

[Contemporary aspects of aviation ophthalmic ergonomics].

The article tackle problems of ophthalmic ergonomics in contemporary aviation. The authors necessitate PC software to be put into practice of medical examination in pilots, stress efficacy of photorefraction surgery for vision rehabilitation and better occupational adequacy of pilots.

[Professional vision of flying personnel in the context of occupational health].

A conceptual strategy of increasing tolerance to the unfavorable factors of flyer's profession is specifically aimed at keeping-up professional vision. The reason for this strategy is associated with the need to develop an integrated system of expert-prognostic, ophthalmoergonomic, psychophysiologic, functional and rehabilitative measures with the goal to enhance the visual performance and to prolong the professional longevity of flyers. The paper offers deliberations on the concept of "professional vision of a pilot".

[Methodological approaches to correcting myopia in flight personnel].

Myopia as the main reason of disqualification of the pilots meets in 2.7% of cases from number of all certificates and in 17% serves the main reason of restriction in flying work. The authors offer a new technique of correction of myopia in pilots, based on principles of the complex approach: the primary visual status at choice of a method of correction; the estimation of efficiency of correction is founded on the professional visual testing; the adverse conditions of activity of a pilot influence on a choice of a method of correction. The authors estimate efficiency of three methods of correction of myopia in the pilots: anterior dosed radial keratotomy, direct electrical ophthalmostimulation (DEOS) and contact correction, formulate an experts' report about efficiency of application of DEOS and contact lenses, prove a conducting role of contact correction in system of medical and professional rehabilitation of flying personnel with myopia.

[Physiotherapeutic correction of functional visual disturbances].

The authors describe a physiotherapeutic technique of functional stimulation of the organ of vision which allows effective prevention and correction of functional manifestations of visual asthenia syndrome in persons with normal visual status. The effectiveness of the technique was proved by improvement in clinical (sight acuteness, accommodation reserves), functional and subjective (visual life quality) parameters of the visual analyzer function.

[Major trends in the development of methods for correction of myopia in the practice of world ophthalmology].

The authors have analyzed the patents developed in various countries of the world for improving the methods for myopia correction. Methods for surgical correction predominated in the USSR in the last 8 years, whereas abroad contact correction was the main trend of late. Major trends in the development of myopia correction methods in the world have been defined.

[Incidence of eye diseases in inhabitants of the Koryak Autonomous Territory].

This study was aimed at comprehensive examination of the visual status of residents of the Northern regions within the frames of investigations on the problem of vision deterioration in the residents of the North. The study covered seven regions of the Koryak Autonomous Territory. A total of 1067 patients were examined, 30% of these were children aged mostly from 6 to 12. About half the examinees were indigenous population of the North. On the whole, the results coincide with previous findings. At the same time, the incidence of myopia is somewhat higher than 10-15 years before. This increase is caused by two principal groups of factors: social and visual. The authors emphasize that the level of ophthalmologic care of the population in the Northern regions is to be improved and measures preventing diseases of the organ of vision be strictly adhered to.

[Ophthalmophysiological features of applying soft contact lenses to correct myopia in pilots].

The development of effective methods for preventing and correcting myopia in pilots is one of the most important problems of aeronautic ophthalmology. The majority of Russian and foreign aeronautic ophthalmologists agree that contact correction is the principal method for repair of occupational vision of myopic pilots. Experiments with soft contact lenses with 38 and 70% humor content were carried out. The methodology was based on comprehensive examinations of the vision status and status of the organ of vision under common conditions on the Earth and during simulation of unfavorable flight factors. The results indicate that contact lenses are a safe means for correcting myopia in pilots. This is confirmed by the absence of unfavorable changes in the main visual functions and in the status of the anterior segment of the eye, by a constant level of visual working capacity, and by the absence of negative subjective sensations.
