[Functional state of the neuroendocrine system in men after myocardial infarction in the period of rehabilitation].

The paper is devoted to systemic analysis of changes of the hypophyseal hormones, sex and adrenal glands, and thyroid in men in the course of a year after MI. A stable state of the hypophyseal-gonadal system the first 2 mos after MI was followed by a significant decrease in prolactin, testosterone levels and an increase in estradiol concentration. A marked decrease in STH, cortisol, TSH and thyroid hormone levels, and monotonously decreased ("leveled") circadian rhythm of secretion of practically all hormones were revealed. Functional exercise tests have shown switching over of the neuroendocrine system of MI patients to a special sparing regimen functioning at a qualitatively new hormonal-metabolic level rather than its depletion.

[Growth hormone and prolactin levels of the blood in men with a history of myocardial infarct during rehabilitation].

The paper is concerned with a dynamic study of the level of the growth hormone (STH) and prolactin in the blood of male patients at different time of their rehabilitation after myocardial infarction (MI). STH concentration starting from the first determination (the 17th day) up to the end of the investigation (in 6 mos.) was below the level of the hormone in healthy males; with an increase in the time-period after MI acute phase the STH level was on a decrease. The time course of change of prolactin secretion was more complicated. The first points of determination (the 17th and 30th days) showed a significant increase in prolactin, then its level dropped not only below indices of the initial points of determination but also significantly below the hormone level in the control group.

Parlodel treatment of uremic hypogonadism in men.

Parlodel, 2.5 mg daily, was given during 1-3 months to 14 uremic hypogonadal patients (placebo controlled in 6). Except for a decrease in serum prolactin levels on Parlodel (p less than 0.01), no significant changes in hormonal values (gonadotropins and testosterone) were observed either on Parlodel or on placebo. Parlodel treatment improved the potency of 10 patients, eliminated gynecomastia in 2 and normalized spermatogenesis in 6; the best results were obtained in patients on low-protein diet. On placebo, potency improved only in 1 patient; no improvement in spermatogenesis was registered. Thus, Parlodel can improve sexual function and spermatogenesis in hypogonadal uremic males.

[Dynamics of pituitary gonadotropin and sex hormone levels in men with myocardial infarction during rehabilitation].

Blood levels of pituitary gonadotrophins: the follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and the luteinizing hormone (LH), and sex steroids: testosterone (T) and estradiol (E), were measured repeatedly on days 17, 30 and 60, and within 3.5 and 6 months after the onset of myocardial infarction in 60 male patients between 32 and 55 years of age. Stable LH, FSH, T and E levels of the first two months were succeeded with a significant decrease in T values as well as a simultaneous FSH rise, i.e. a combination of normo- and hypergonadotrophic hypogonadism, in men of 50-55 years. A complex process of readaptation to preinfarction stereotypes of situations arising at home and at work 2 or 3 months after the attack is believed to be one of the causes underlying this pituitary-sexual response.

[Sexual functions of men with a history of myocardial infarct during rehabilitation].

A sexologic investigation, using questionnaires, in convalescing postmyocardial infarction male patients aged 26 to 55 years showed considerable disturbance of sexual functions: depressed libido, fewer spontaneous erections and copulations, and even complete sexual failure, resulting in the inferiority complex and the hypochondriac syndrome. A 1.5-2 months' treatment with iohimbina (GDR), tendex forte (India) and speman forte (India) improved considerably sexual functions in males of all ages.
