The authors provide the clinico-morphological data obtained in 189 patients with primary glomerulonephritis (GN). The disease was manifested clinically by the nephrotic syndrome (NS). The NS was most commonly induced by membranous-proliferative GN (MPGN), membranous GN (MGN), diffuse mesangio-proliferative GN and focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS), accounting for 31, 25, 22.8 and 8.7% of cases, respectively. Hypertension together with edema was among the most common symptoms of the NS in adult patients. Functional disorders of the kidneys recorded in FSGS, MPGN and MGN patients were more significant as compared to those in other patients. The morphological findings alone, obtained with the aid of light, immunofluorescent and electron microscopy, play the key role in the diagnosis of different patterns of GN.
The paper is concerned with the results of a method for the interpretation of commonly used methods of the determination of blood clearance and radio-nephrography with 131I-hippuran based on a mathematical model of its transport in the human body. Empirical values of model parameters were obtained in 120 patients with chronic glomerulo- and pyelo-nephritis verified morphologically and roentgenologically. The use of computational-interpretation algorithms made it possible to determine the volume of circulating plasma (blood), values of true summary and isolated effective renal plasma flow (blood flow) by means of a single i. v. hippuran administration. New indicators for assessment of isolated excretory-transport function and renal hemodynamics as well as indicators of the symmetry of renal function were proposed. The results of a statistical analysis made it possible to recommend some of them as criteria of early diagnosis of pre-uremic disorder of renal function. Radionuclide indicators of renal function showed good correlation with biochemical, morphological and roentgenological characteristics of renal damage in renal diseases.

Stimulation of the rabbit anterior hypothalamus reduced the amount of reticulocytes in the blood, decreased the hematocrit, redistributed the intrarenal blood flow reducing the blood supply of the renal cortex. Stimulation of the posterior hypothalamus led to an increase in the reticulocytes amount and an isolated increase in the blood supply of the cortical nephrones' glomeruli. No changes of the plasma erythropoietic activity occurred. The data obtained suggest the hypothalamus-induced changes of the hemodynamics (in bone marrow and kidneys particularly) as one of the possible hypothalamic influences upon the erythrone.

The oxygen metabolism (pO2, the constant of the oxygen rate consumption, the coefficient of the oxygen distribution), the activity of oxid-reduced and hydrolytic enzymes, the blood supply of the kidney cortex and medulla, were recorded. These data were compared with the erythropoietin activity of plasma in the rats with phenylhydrazine anemia and posttransfusion polycytemia. An obvious reverse interrelationship existed between plasma erythropoietin activity and value of pO2 and blood supply of the cortex. The activity of the above enzymes was practically unchanged. The data obtained suggest that erythropoietin is formed in the cortex of the kidney and its production is controlled by the degree of oxygen supply of the kidney tissue.
